X58 Platinum: how to control the fans?

I'm running a X58 Platinum (Bios 3.7) with a i7-950 and I'm really happy with it. There's just one problem:

All of my (case) fans are running at 100%. I can't find a setting in the Bios which would control them depending on the temperature. All my other mainboards have a Bios entry like 'smart fan control'.

Thanks in advance for all your help :)

In the BIOS under H/W Monitor, it looks like you'll just have to set the percentage rather than control it by temperature.

The fan headers that are controllable will be in your BIOS as a percentage, as Mark pointed out.
You can of course use speedfan to control those fans that are connected to the motherboard fan headers. Speedfan is a nice utility that runs in windows and will provide you with a host of information over and above the Fan control. Usually two of the MB fan headers have the ability to be controlled. This is of course subject to your case fans having three pin connections and not 2 like some of the cheaper fans do..

Hello,

I am looking at building a new rig with an MSI X58 Platinum motherboard (I really like the layout of the PCIex16 slots that are nicely spaced out).

I was wondering to what exact extent you can control fans using speedfan. I read in the the manual that the CPU fan has has a PWM connector (4 pins) but I plan to use only a 3-pin CPU cooler (Noctua NH-U12P SE2). Will that still be controllable by speedfan?

Also, there are 5 additional fan power ports on the motherboard, of which 3 can be controlled from the BIOS. Can someone confirm that these can be controlled from speedfan as well (assuming 3-pin fans are used) ?

Thanks for the help.

PS: can sppedfan read most of the temps, voltages and RPMs on the Platinum?

No, not if that fan is hooked up to the 4-Pin PWM CPU-Fan header.  It will work on one of the controlable 2-pin SYS-Fan headers.

That should work without problems.
