x58 platinum vista home prem32....After setting up the array and using the int drivers, vista tells me it cant find a good volume. Is this a case where the drives have to be installed on a particular sata connection?
I also created a partition but i dont see that that should cause a problem
very frustrated any help would be greatly appreciated

Can you try installing the JMicron RAID drivers using the Vista CD to boot for 3rd party drivers installation? There is not need to install Vista after the drivers installation.

not sure i fully understand what you mean. are you saying setup the array and then install windows and use a third party driver offered by microsoft on the windows cd?

No. You need to understand this:

1. The X58 Platinum has two different SATA Controllers (Intel ICH10R (6 SATA Ports) and JMicron 322 (2 additional SATA Ports)).  The JMicron Ports are the red ones on the following picture:

prod_0fc4cbc7d73667832050c0f99f3f62e7.jpg

2.  Both Controllers can be individually set to RAID Mode in BIOS:

--->  Intel ICH10R -> Integrated Peripherals -> On-Chip ATA Devices -> RAID Mode = [RAID]
--->  JMicron 322  -> Integrated Peripherals -> Drive Booster Controller #1 -> [Update To RAID1]

[Also: Please read the Appendixes on Intel and JMicron RAID in the mainboard's user manual!]

3.  Each controller needs its own driver when it is set to RAID Mode.  If you set the Intel ICH10R Controller to RAID Mode, you need Intel ICH10R SATA RAID Drivers, if you set the JMicron 322 Controller to RAID Mode you need to integrate JMicron 322 SATA RAID Drivers and if you set both Controllers to RAID Mode, you will need to integrate both drivers.

4.  If you set the JMicron 322 Controller to RAID Mode (Ports 7/8), the Intel RAID Drivers to not help you one bit.  You need to use the JMicron 322 SATA RAID Drivers.

-------------------

Now:

1.  Make sure only that controller is that to RAID Mode, that you actually need.
2.  Triple-Check that you are using the proper drivers.

Great !!! worked great except that windoze didnt like my sata optical drive so i hooked up an ide just for install.
