This is my first i7 build and like most I did some serious research on mobo's before buying. The ASUS P6T and the X58 Platinum reveiws and testing resilts I found were nearly equal. I have been an dedicated MSI user for years , so this time I thought I'd try the ASUS P6T. Needless to say, in my opinion, it was a bad idea. It turned out to be somewhat unstable at default settings with only XMP enabled. Games were crashing, prime did not do so well either and temps and votages were definetly different that what I am seeing now with the X58 Platinum. The CPU voltage on the ASUS would average around 1.10 volts and with the CPU Q Fan Contol enabled in standard mode I was never going below 40 degrees idle.
The X58 Platinum, also settings at default, doesn't seem to like running the particular memory I have in XMP and with both boards the OCZ 1333 mhz PC-10600 showed up in the bios without XMP as 1066 mhz. So I really don't have to much faith in Intel's Extreme Memory Technology at the moment or OCZ for labeling this 1333 MHz memory.
Again with Turbo mode enabled CPU runing at 2806 Mhz (133 x 21). The CPU core voltage on the X58 is reading 1.28 volts. which I beleive is closer to the high end of the spec. for this processor, but with that said it is running about 15 degrees cooler at both idle and under load in the X58. The other finding was the QPI Link Frequency was higher on the P6T (3207 mhz) and on the X58 (2405 mhz), which most likely could be adjusted.
All in all I am definetly much more at ease with the X58. The quality an reputation of both manufacture's have been great over the years, but nothing beats the stability and reliabilty of MSI.
Please reply and post your comments. By the way I am posting this thread with prime95 running 8 workers for 6 hours now. Not one glitch CPU 45 dgrees and Cores around 60 degrees.
