x58 platinum system temps

Hi all. I need some help. I've just built my brother a new gaming rig using the x58 platinum mb and im gettin very high system temps, idles at 60-65c :angryfire: im sure this is very high as i read somewhere that they should be about 45c????? because of this i havent overclocked it yet. its an a arctic 1200 case with extra side fan so air flow is not a problen.

any help would be great

Hmm what heat sink are you using for the processor? Is it a third party hs or stock hs? Btw did you apply some thermal grease, alternatively try tidying the internal cable. Other than the side fans, is there any fans at the back or front of the case as well?

the cpu temps are fine, using the asus Triton 81 Quiet CPU Cooler which is a great cooler, cpu temps; idle 23c-max 57c. its just the system temp. all the cables are tidied out the way, have 3 120mm front intake fans, 2 rear 120mm exhaust fans and 1 220 top mounted exahust fan plus the 120mm intake fan on the side. im thinkink of taking the northbridge heatsink off amd replacing the thermal paste with some m1. also going to update the bios to se if that helps

Temperatures in the 50-70?C range seem to be quite common.  Intel defines the maximum temperature as 105? (or 100 ?C, not exactly sure), so 57?C is exactly in the middle (Minimum operating temperature is 5?C).

When I first installed the x58, the system temps were up around 70C.  I added another fan on the side and removed the ducting to the CPU.  The ducting didn't line up anyway so I think it was blocking airflow more then anything.  I now get a system temp of less than 50C.

now realised its the IOH temp that is high!!! system temp is only 34c. just taken mb out and had a look at the IOH cooler. not impressed at all!!!!! found that if i pushed the middle of the cooler into the chip i would get a 10c drop in temps. thinking of replacing the locking pins with cable ties and fitting a 45mm fan to it. 60-70c is not right, way to high for my liking. also the paste they used wastn to my liking either so i put some artic siver 5 on there, gonna get some mx1 for the finall fit.

I was wondering if there was any way to put a fan on or near the passive copper heat spreader for the northbridge. I was reading on another site where someone said they put a 40 mm fan on their heat spreader. I was considering replacing stock intel i7 cooler with a cpu cooler which would blow air parallel to the motherboard out the case which would make northbridge overheating more of a problem. I was wondering whether anyone had any info. My case does have a side vent to bring air in but it would be blocked by my massive geforce gtx 280 which is in the way.
