I hope you guys can help....
I have a new MSI x58 Platinum MB with the Intel i7 920 Quad chip, 3x GSkill DDR3-1333 PC3 memory chips and a Coolmax 950B PS, NVidia 8800Gt video card.  I have each of the memory cards in the black slots per manual.  The problem is during boot up.  From a cold boot it will enter the high fan speed power up mode then 1 long beep followed by 2 short beeps.  It will stay at this high fan speed for a long time.  If I press the reset button it will do the same thing, but if I press the reset button a third time it will suddenly drop the fan speeds and boot normally.  Once it boots from this into Vista everything runs fine.  However, if Vista asks to do a restart or I initiate a restart the computer will shutdown normally then reboot, but when the Windows progress screen clears I get the BSOD.  There is only one line of info in the BSOD and no mention of any drivers, etc.  I researched on the POST beeps and it seems like it could be a video issue.  This somewhat makes sense because when the Windows goes to Blue screen is usually the same time the screen goes black as if it is switching to the video card (just a guess).  BIOS version is 1.1  So 2 questions...
1.  Why is the system not cold booting correctly?
2.  Why do I get the BSOD when doing a hot restart in Vista?

Thanks in advance and let me know if you need anymore info.

I re-installed Vista as well as all the other drivers.  Now the machine cold boots fine but still goes to the BSOD on restarts from within Vista.  It has to be the NVidia drivers or maybe a setting in the BIOS.  When I reinstalled Vista it would reboot with no problem during the installation process but as soon as I installed the NVidia card it would not restart normally.  I have tried using older nvidia drivers but am still getting the same results.  I also changed the CPU Voltage to +0.08 so that is was about 1.25 volts in the H/W monitor.  I also increased the QPI 0.01 volts and have increased the bus speed to 145 so the chip is running fine at 3.0 gHz.  Are there any need to change the PCI-E settings in the BIOS?  Why is Vista not restarting during warm boots (restarts from within Vista)?  Any ideas...please help.
For now...when Vista asks to do a restart I choose "not now" and then shut down normally, then do a normal cold boot restart.

My system is pretty much going to be same (been reading for the forums for possible issues). Any way I have stupid question. Have you tried removing your video card drivers totally to ensure they're causing the issue? I don't know if this will help but I always set my PCI-E frequency to 100.

The system will restart with no problems if Vista is set up to use the standard VGA drivers.  Once I load the NVidia drivers it will Blue Screen during the beginning of the restart, right after the little progress bar on the bottom of the screen disappears and then the round windows shield appears in the middle of the screen...it will Blue Screen.  I think this is the time it loads the video drivers because during a cold boot the screen will go blank then re-appear like it just swapped video drivers.  The PCI-E frequency is set at 100 mHz which must be the default setting in the BIOS.  Any one have any solutions?

By the way, my son has been on the computer all day and it is performing great.  I just wish I could figure out this warm restart (re-boot) problem

I am having a similar problem booting. I think it is the power supply. This is the third one (CoolerMaster 750) I have had replaced under warranty.  Basic problem is that it has 4 x 12+ volt rails, splitting amps to below what is needed for all components to boot at once. Each rail is 19a and from the diagrams the most I am getting is a combined 36a from two rails. My Corsair TX650 has one rail with 52a and has no problems with my MSI P43 or ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus boards. My Antec Earthwatts 450 works fine with them as well. CoolerMaster doesn't.

I also have two MSI P43 Neo3 systems with the Q6600. I had to go back to Forceware versions 162.65 (EVGA GeForce 8600 GTS) and 163.75 (BFG GeForce 8500 GT) to get stable NVidia drivers with XP Pro.

I will test my Corsair with the X58 board and let you know what happens.

Thanks for trying to help.  I spoke too soon on the cold boot issue.  It is working about 50/50 without using multiple resets to get it to cold boot.  It just updated to Vista SP1 last night but this did not fix the BSOD when doing a warm restart from within Vista.  Strange thing is that the computer runs great once it is started.  It will run all day with out problems.  I'm hoping a BIOS fix will come out soon to perhaps fix this problem.  I am going to check one more thing in a few minutes.  I read where the MB is picky about where you have your SATA devices plugged in.  I think the harddrive is plugged into SATA 1 and the DVD Drive is in SATA2 but I am going to go double check (It is my son's rig).  Anyway, someone on NewEgg mentioned this was a problem for him when he was booting.  I also ended up increasing the CPU's voltage to +0.12 in order to get a steady 1.25 volts during use.  I also went ahead and installed NVidia's Beta driver hoping this would make a difference during warm restarts but no luck.  Please keep looking into this...I am hoping I can solve it :)

I have tried it with one Ram at a time and that did not fix it.

UPDATE!!!
I removed the 8800GT card from PCI_E2 slot and replaced it with an 8600GT video card and that did not help.  I then placed the 8600GT card in the PCI_E5 slot and the computer booted perfectly and would even restart Vista with no problems.  So I shut down and R/R the 8600GT card with the 8800GT card in the PCI_E5 slot and it is cold booting and restarting in Vista with NO problems.  The manual says that if you are going to use one video card it should be in the PCI_E2 slot.  So I have a couple of questions.
1.  Is the PCI_E2 video card slot inoperative or just not working correctly?
2.  If I use just one video card and have it inserted into PCI_E5 slot will it degrade the video cards abilities?
3.  Is the manual incorrect or is the MB wired wrong?
4.  Should I RMA the MB or leave it like it is?

I also opened up the NVidia system panel as well as CPU-Z and they both show the card using a Gen2 x16 slot.  I am going to restart the computer and check the BIOS settings and then restart Vista a couple of more times before I claim victory.  Awaiting any suggestions and thanks in advance.

Update 1:  The computer is running perfect now.  I just ran 3D Mark06 on the default settings and it scored about 15,000.  Which is a little higher then before when the 8800GT card was in the PCI_E2 slot.  It is also cold booting and restarting out of Vista normally :)  Can anybody answer the questions please?  Thanks,
Alan

Can someone answer this question?
If I use just one video card and have it inserted into PCI_E5 slot will it degrade the video cards abilities?
Thanks,
Alan

After looking in the manual, since the PCI_E5 PCIEgen2 slot is X16, it should be fine to run your card there without any adverse performance effect. If you haven't yet, it would be a good idea to contact MSI & advise them of the problems you have encountered. This is the kind of stuff they need to know so it can be fixed at their level. Since this is a user to user forum, no MSI employees are usually looking in here.

As a side note, are you running the 180.48 nvidia drivers? I had problems with that one, but the new 181.20 has worked great.

The PCIE 5 slot which you are mentioning, are you referring to the slot nearer to the CPU or further away?

Hey guys...I just happen to recheck this thread and noticed a lot of people having issues with this board.  Just FYI, since moving the video card into the other PCI-E slot the computer has run fanstatic.  Thanks HU16E for answering the question.  I have seen newer threads discussing boot issues...I would recommend moving your video card and rebooting.  I'm certain my MoBo can't be the only one built with this problem.
