Hello everybody!

First let me list my specs:

I7 920
MSI Pro-E
3x2GB DDR3 Triple Channel memory (OCZ3G1600LV2G)
Two GTX260 running in SLI

I'm having an issue with the X58 Pro-e not showing all the memory in bios and windows.  About two weeks ago my mainboard died on me with no video, and I RMA'd the board and got a swap in return.  Today I got the board in and put the beast back together and I have power, posts, and video, and everything is working fine, but the only issue is that there is only 4 gigs showing out of the 6 gigs I had installed.  Booted to the bios and checked there as well and still only showing 4096MB of physical memory.  The strange thing is that all three sticks are seen and the DIMM slots are said to be occupied.  As well as in CPU-Z the memory is showing up as 6GB and the sticks are all shown but again in windows and bios only 4GB physical memory. VERY STRANGE

Reseated all sticks of memory, and even lined them up by serial number (hoping) but still only 4GB.  Updated the bios and still same issue.  Decided to barebones, and using only one video card, and still same issue.  Checked online and people are saying to reseat the cpu.  I had something better as I have another i7 920 laying around and tried that one out, and STILL only 4GB.  Tested and reseated both CPUs three times and still only 4GB.  Checked the socket pins and they all look good as well. Issue is not with the CPU.

Read also online about messing with the timings and voltage for the memory.  Did tons of different configurations with the timings and voltages and even set the to the memory specs and still same issue, set them lower and no luck.

Getting irritated I called MSI Tech Support as they were still open, and the guy basically was telling me to do the stuff I've already done, so that honestly was not help. He did set me up for another RMA though with free shipping back in case I end up not solving the issue and it does turn out to be the mainboard I can send it back to RMA it.

So the question is can anybody help me out, I really really do not want to go another two weeks and have to RMA the board and be out of computer.  Willing to try different times for the memory, just about anything in hopes to fix it.  I just don't want to RMA this sucker again.

I've tried each black ram slot and all of them are working and reporting the correct memory, will try again though to make sure.  And yes I am using the black slots.

SOOOO....I take that back, I must have tried the bottom black and the top black DIMM slot because each one gives me post and the memory checks good.  The kicker is though that the middle black DIMM slot give me no post, and after about 5-10 seconds the computer reboots and boot loops.

...Looks like I'm going be out of a computer for ANOTHER 2 weeks!!! unless that is normal lol, this sucks.

UPDATE:  For giggles, I did a memtest with all three sticks installed and memtest detects all of the sticks and passes testing, still pretty sure that the middle dimm slot is defective though as I get no post or power looping like it is when only one sticks is installed into the slot

Since DIMM A0 works, what happens when you add another stick to B0 for dual channel? A0 is the primary slot, & needs to be filled always.

To HU16E,

Did what you say and I have a 2gig in the top, and one in the middle.  Bios and windows only detects 2 gigs installed.  Middle slot has to be bad.

Concur. Only other possible may be some bent socket pins or a CPU pad contact issue. Sometimes reseating the CPU cures this. That would also provide an opportunity to check over the socket pins. I don't know what CPU cooler solution you are using, but sometimes the downward pressure isn't evenly distributed & can cause this problem. Might be worth checking before RMA of the board.

Yea I've reseated it about 3-4 times, I've even used two CPUS and still the same thing.  I'm using a CoolerMaster V8 on it which is a pretty damn heavy heatsink.  I tried it with the heatsink barely screwed on just so I could get into the bios and check and it was still telling me only 4GBs.  I'm going to try ONE more time though before I RMA it

I don't have the stock cooler, bought both of the cpus by themselves through friends.  I tried again with the other cpu still the same issue.  Inspected pins and again no pins are bent or anything.  Even tried with just the V8 barely tightened on and still only 4GB.  Looks like I'm going to have to RMA.
