X670E Ace Bios Problems

Hardware:
Processor: 7950X
Motherboard: MSI X670E Ace
GPU: EVGA 3080 TI FTW3
MEMORY: G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB Series AMD EXPO 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000 (PC5 48000)
PSU: EVGA 1000W P6
Cooler: 360 Phanteks AIO MPH

After updating my BIOS today on my PC. When booting up I was getting BIOS Code A6 and the RAM light was staying Amber. This didn't occur on the previous BIOS 7D69v13. I attempted to clear CMOS but same issue. I ended up downgrading my BIOS back to 7D69v13. I opened a ticket with MSI, but just a heads up in case anyone else runs into this. Before 7D69v142 I had zero issues with RAM and bootup problems.

I'm running v1.52 bios when it was released on the official BIOS support page for MSI x670 pro wifi, I have yet to encounter issues. The only issue I got was VGA light might light up and freeze in the BIOS page sometime if I stay in BIOS settings for too long, and I have to shut down my PC manually.

I have MSI x670 pro wifi motherboard, and running v1.52 from the MSI official support BIOS update page, I see it got replaced with v1.50, was v1.52 a beta bios version? I would really appreciate it if MSI team is able to list beta BIOS as beta.

Also, if I were to downgrade my bios to v1.50, would that create problems? Like are there going to be information from v1.52 stored in the BIOS chip if I downgrade?
One last question, what's the ETA on the sleep option coming back with EXPO enabled at 6000mhz, and faster POST time when EXPO enabled due to memory retraining I presume

I’ve downgraded several times without issue after the latest bios update.

Asrock and Gigabyte have supplied beta bioses for every board in their lineup. Long ago.
Asus has betas for their x670e boards.
MSI is a bit behind in terms of releases, but on track now.

I've seen many people with agesa 1.0.0.4 having the same problems. General instability, BSODs, just a broken experience. Looks like we have to wait for a patched agesa, may it be 1004a/1004b or 1005.

Looks like all Manufactures are having some problems with 1.0.0.4
And all most can do is wait for AMD to fix it as generally all they are able to do is a reskin and adjust some settings but not touch the base code
None of the Big three Intell Nvidia and AMD seem to allow Partners to fiddle with the Base code, Nvidia insists on approving any and all changes apparently.
Not sure how strict AMD is or Intel but they have both patched BIOS to block Partners doing things they do not want done especially Intel.

If it ends in two digits it is not Beta all beta will or should have a third number like XXXX.123 would be a BETA of Version 2 where XXXX.12 is the final release of version 2

7D67 Is the board model this number may be shared by several boards
The next Digit 1 is the board version generally not shared with the Different Versions of the Same Model
Final Digit 5 is Bios Version
Any third digit denotes what Beta revision it is



But it seems they may have changed something of late.

I assumed based on the issue of enabling AMD EXPO and then the issue appears, that it wouldn't just be an MSI problem.

Pro X670-P WiFi - 7900x - Corsair 5200 (2x32GB) EXPO (enabled in BIOS)
1.40 - everything stable, but low boot times (45-60 seconds) - enabling Memory Context Restore resulted in a faster boot (14-16 seconds) on Windows 11.
1.52 appeared in December - installing it stops the system from booting, with BSOD crashes. Fixed by disabling Memory Context Restore, but back to slow booting.

I've rolled back to 1.40 today, since it's more important for me to have a faster system. Even 14 seconds is very much, but hey...at least it boots.

Using "Try it!" in BIOS to clock the RAM at 5400 instead of 5200 stops the system from booting...

Interesting observations:

- in MSI Center - Support - Live Update - Advanced - Current version is 1.40 (expected) but Online version is 1.50 (note, not 1.52, but 1.50). If I try to install it from there, the system reboots into Flash Mode, but still asks for a UBS drive with that bios version on it. Whomever designed MSI Center should be fired to be honest, it's completely useless.

- if you go to the support website - https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-X670-P-WIFI/support - the latest version is 1.40:

So it looks like MSI has removed both 1.52 and 1.50 from their website, but not from MSI Center.

Sort it out already MSI, produce a stable BIOS, talk to AMD and fix the slow boot times and the crashes.

AM5 configurations should be lightning fast, with less than 10 second boot times.

Also, what's with the latency issues when you have 128GB RAM with 4 dimms (4x32) ? EXPO was supposed to fix that, and no, the CPU should not have issues reading the memory instantaneously, it's 2023 ffs ! We all have DDR5 dimms and we are forced to clock them at 4200-4600 instead of 5400+.

All vendors have the same problem AMD has yet to release a stable bios
As to MSI Center, it will not display Beta BIOS versions

If you want a working BIOS go chew out AMD who supply the base bios to MSI

But it displays 1.50, which is not Beta. If it's not Beta, why doesn't it appear on the support page ?

Also, if MSI recognises the issues with 1.50, why doesn't remove it from MSI Center as well ?

Ignoring the typos ("...to update the BIOS when the system has no issues")... MSI should hire someone who speaks native English.

I bought the motherboard from MSI, not from AMD. This "advice" doesn't look good ;)

MSI should thoroughly test any BIOS it receives before making it public on the support page/MSI Center.

I bought the motherboard from MSI, not from AMD. This "advice" doesn't look good ;)

MSI should thoroughly test any BIOS it receives before making it public on the support page/MSI Center.

It is impossible to test for every config
Is why I am collecting build info would you care to add your full build information and Pick of Memory sticker
So it can be passed on to our MSI Contact.

Any post with build info and this Edit has been passed on

They haven't acknowledged anything, they just pulled it silently, but you can still download it, the link is still up: Removed

I'd say they acknowledged it by pulling the update from all of the AM5 motherboard models. It's hard to say how widespread the issue actually is. I'm not in any rush to update my BIOS anyway, since my current one works fine.
