X670E Ace USB-C DisplayPort Not Working

Hello,

I've had the X670E Ace for a couple of months and have not had any issues using USB-C DP during that time. This morning, it doesn't work anymore. When I plug the monitor in, I get a message on the PC stating "Display connection might be limited." Audio passthrough is working for the connected device but the display is not detected. I've updated the iGPU drivers which did not make a difference.

I have tested the display on my Steam Deck and MacBook and the display works on both of those - so the problem is only with my desktop using the X670E Ace.

I don't see any Windows updates occuring since 5/13 and the only recent change I've made was a BIOS update about 4 days ago, so this has worked since then.

Anyone had a similar problem or have any suggestions?

Thanks

So you are on BIOS 7D69v184? It seems that previous BIOS 7D69v182 didn't have this problem?
Do you have another working Type-C cable to try? How about disabling memory A-XMP and test again?

Previous BIOS was 7D69v17, just find it a bit odd that it could be BIOS related when it worked for a few days on 7D69v184. That said, I've tried a new cable also tested w/ and w/o A-XMP with no luck. I might try downgrading the BIOS just to see (assuming downgrades aren't prevented... I can't recall).

I did notice that there was a driver update I overlooked when I checked Windows Update history yesterday. This update was applied yesterday, Advanced Micro Devices - MEDIA - 10.0.1.21. I can't find much info about what this is but it does seem to have occurred between the last time USB-DP worked and the day I noticed the issue.

Now it sounds more like a software related problem such as driver.

Advanced Micro Devices - MEDIA - 10.0.1.21
That's AMD High Definition Audio Device driver. You can go to Device Manger > Sound, video and game controllers > AMD High Definition Audio Device > check the driver version.
How about installing the latest AMD iGPU driver Adrenalin 23.4.3:
https://drivers.amd.com/drivers/whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-23.4.3-win10-win11-apr27.exe

Btw, what monitor is connected via Type-C?

I had tried that iGPU driver prior to posting, no luck. I just downgraded the BIOS back to 7D69v17 and it's working again. Not sure how to report this issue to make sure it's resolved in a future release but it does seem to be tied to the latest beta BIOS.

For reference, the monitor is a Cisco Desk Pro.

Can you list full and detailed system specs? see >>Posting Guide<<
Also tell how is connected to dual display? Or you use 1 display only?

Sure. Consolidating everything here:
Board: MSI MEG X670E Ace
BIOS: 7D69v184
VGA: Asus 3080 TUF
PSU: MSI MPG A1000G PCIE 5 - Full Modular - 80 Plus Gold 1000W
CPU: AMD 7950x3d
MEM: CORSAIR Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6400 (PC5 51200) Desktop Memory Model CMT32GX5M2B6400C32
**Can't get the picture without turning the machine off and taking a stick out... I can do that if it's necessary but hoping this info is enough**

HDD/SSD: 1x Samsung 980 Pro (2TB), 1x Crucial CT2000MX500
COOLER: EK-Nucleus AIO CR360 Lux
Keyboard: Logitech G512
Mouse: Logitech G502
OC: Tested with and without OC, no change in behaivor.
OS: Windows 11 Pro for Workstations (x64)
Display: Acer Predator x34, Dell S2719DGF, Cisco Desk Pro
- Is it a TV?: [No]
- How display is connected to the GPU?: [Acer and Dell are DP, Desk Pro is USB-C DP]

After upgrading the BIOS to 7D69v184, USB-C DP no longer works. When connecting the display, I get an error in Windows, "Display connection might be limited." Everything else works (the device speaker and camera are both passed through to the PC and work without issue). After upgrading the BIOS and noticing the issue, I tried the following:
1) Updating iGPU drivers to 23.4.3.
2) Resetting BIOS
3) Different USB-C cable
4) Two other devices using the cables on the same display. Everything worked except the desktop.

When running BIOS 7D69v17, the issue isn't present.

@mergleh
Check PM need extra info.

FYI:
It's been tested followed MSI Type-C monitors: MAG321QR, MAG274QRF, MAG301CR2 and all works fine.

Have you tried to disable any power saving related settings in Cisco Desk Pro OSD menu?

I guess you have tested this monitor with BIOS v184 too? It seems to support Type-C display as well.
Seems like they've reused that model number a lot - the one I have doesn't have USB-C.

Yes, I've had all of those options disabled prior to moving to v184.

Responded to PM
