I just got my new nvidia 5070 and it is working but I am having an issue on cold boot.
When I turn on the computer, monitor goes on but no image is displayed, it looks like stand by and image appears when windows is loading in already.
it doesnt let me see the bios boot, and it deosnt show the windows loading icon.
If I try to go to bios on cold boot display will not show image.
if I reboot everythign works properly and I can see bios screen and widnows loading icon
any ideas where the issue is?? is it nvidia graphics card or it's the bios of my motherboard having an issue with the new graphics card.

Nvdia new driver fixes several bugs with 50s card, have you updated driver to latest?

yes I did installed the driver. to me it is more like a bios issue. is there a way to see if there is a firmware update for nvidia graphic card?

MSI releases 5090 VBIOS which fixes black screen issue to MSI Center Live Update, but for rest of the 50s card, seem only driver fix is needed.
Does change PCIe gen speed to gen 4 or even gen 3 help in your case?

a lot of 50s card DP problem is due to bad DP cable, changing to a good one might help but if you're fine with HDMI, then i guess it's okay.

I've bought StarTech 2.1 cable.. I've read startech is good brand for dp cables and reviews were good.
I still have the same issue on cold boot. What I've noticed is that when I turn on the computer monitor stays off, and it turns on when going in to windows, on welcome screen.
Also I see a command propmt window popping up were quick, but cant read what it is... my guess it is related to installing monitor driver or detecting monitor.
when I reboot I am able to see bios screen, windows loading screen and that Command promt window doesnt show up.

I have the same issue, but a slightly different setup:
  • MSI MPG 321URX
  • MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK
  • 9800x3D
  • MSI Vanguard RTX 5080
I have the latest beta motherboard BIOS, latest chipset drivers, latest Nvidia drivers.

Using display port, I rarely see boot screens, usually just back "no signal" display. I also can't get into BIOs or boot menus, just either loops when I press delete or locks up. This changes if I do a cold boot and unplug/replug the power supply, then boot.

I am reading a lot of diffrenet forums and many people have this issues with black screens.. but most are different. I am leaning more to think that is a RTX 50 series issue than motherboard.
I dont even think it is MSI version of the video card but can't tell for sure

So I've been testing things and the problem is the handshake beteween graphics card and monitor on cold boot.
on my case...
If, on cold boot I go to bios menu and just by simply turning off monitor and turn it back on screen is back. (I can't recall this happening before the update but not sure right now)
should I try a third DP cable from specific brand or a setting on the monitor?

There are times (like right now) where I power the PC on and press delete, and the motherboard light is lit up green (and doesn't constantly restart). However, the screen is black/no-signal. If I turn my monitor on/off, I still get no signal on DP or HDMI. I did see that others online resolved this with a power on / off of the monitor, so maybe my monitor is a special case where it just won't display in this scenario.

I saw that people with RTX 40 series had this issue and were advised to use a Nvidia firmware updater tool, but using the tool on a 50 series yields no results.

yes the firmware update it is only for 40 series I believe. hopefully nvidia or msi will realease something like that for us?
did you try to plug it to another display or tv?

Thanks for that! Yeah it looks like using another monitor helped, I could actually catch the POST. There is once instance where the MB has a green light and doesn't loop when pressing delete but no display on my 321URX, but looks like it WAS displaying BIOS when I plugged the DP into an older monitor. Weird, not sure why the 321URX wasn't displaying even when turned off and turned on? Definitely a weird handshake thing.

I did narrow down my boot issues. It looks like my Arbiter Studio Polar 75 pro keyboard being plugged in at boot is the issue. If I start the computer without the keyboard attached, then plug it in, I can consistently get into BIOS via the delete key. Interestingly, if I plug it in and the RGB isn't working on the keyboard (as in it's malfunctioning, because it should always be on), then the delete key loop happens. This seems like some weird power issue from the USB to the keyboard. Should I use a specific USB port with a different power draw to avoid this? I'm curious if disabling external power if off will solve this issue... Any thoughts?

does the monitor issue also happend with hdmi? have you tried diffrent cables?
I am trying now with dp 1.2 and dp 1.4 vesa certified.. I am waiting for delivery right now.

keyboard issue I used to have a problem were my keyboard doesnt turn on when cold boot or sometimes randomly on reboots.
In order to fix that I had to enable ERP on bios.
anyway my keyboard is well known to have issues...
but maybe try that.

I've tried 3 new cables.. 1.2 1.4 vesa certicied and at some point one of them was able to boot with post screen instead of black screen till windows. but it only happend one tipe. strangly enough the only time my pc boot from cold boot and screen going on was the only time that led lights from case didnt go on...
I've tried disabling led lights from motherboard but it went back to normal behavor of cold boot with black screen till windows welcome screen....

Thanks for that idea with the keyboard! I did try that but it didn't seem to change my situation much. I also played around with a few USB power options to no avail. I also played with Windows power options - Set to Ultimate, fast boot disabled, didn't seem to change anything.

It's pretty easy to blame my keyboard at this point, but the manufacturer said they never heard of someone having this issue before. I might try plugging my setup into another room/outlet to narrow down any power related issues.

I also tested it with a completely different PC and while it booted and went into BIOS okay, I had the same windows login issues (can press a key to show the PIN entry, but the keys don't do anything. Also clicking the power button on the lower right doesn't show the menu. If I login with the on-screen accessibility keyboard the system crashes within a few minutes.)

no news?? nobody has issues?
I ran into the same no-signal issue last night trying to get into BIOS again, had to plug the DP cord into my other monitor to see anything. Super weird that my URX321 can't pick it up even turning it on/off, unplugging/replugging in the cord. Maybe it has something to do with the 321URX having more tech in it (4k, HDR, 240hz, etc) vs my other monitor is older and less feature rich (2k SDR 70hz). I'm not sure what triggers it, but it feels like it mostly happens on a cold boot. If this was an issue fixed by Nvidia in the 40 series cards, I'm sure it'll be a matter of time for the 50 series to get patched. Maybe submit a request to Nvidia? Fortunately for me, I can still get into Windows most of the time so this isn't a huge issue for me.

I sent email to nvidia they've told that they dont have any reports with DP issues on 5070 series.
they were giving some help tweaking things on windows but I really dont think it has to do with widnows... at the end they've told me that the issue must but on the MSI 5070 version that I have and I should contact manufacturer.
I've also sent an email to MSI, the person who reply the email was very helpful and thoughtful of the issue giving me things I should be changing on bios but nothing helped.
He also told me that there are known issues about x670 motherboards and 5070's and they are aware..
last advice he gave was to check MSI Center for vBios update for my video card.. lets see what happens...

Great feedback and info, thanks for this. So turns out my problem was that I needed to short/reset the CMOS jumper and that somehow fixed all my problems. I also updated to the latest BIOS before this. Though, I still run into DP black screen issues, but at least my PC boots and is stable. Good luck!
