X870E Carbon Wi-Fi RGB Lighting Issue

I recently set-up a new PC with an MSI X870E Carbon Wi-Fi motherboard and almost nothing with an RGB lighting effect is detected by, or responding to, Mystic Light. Even the motherboard I/O refuses to respond (it actually turned off after trying to send a command with Mystic Light and hasn't come back on)

I've double/triple checked that everything is fully plugged in at the headers.
I've tried moving parts to different headers.
I tried uninstalling every other piece of software that can control anything RGB (Logitec Ghub, Corsair iCUE) so I'm not using any 3rd party RGB controller or alternative RGB control software, just the motherboard and Mystic Light.
I've tried uninstalling the software, restarting, and reinstalling.

The only part that responds is:
MSI RTX 4070 SUPER GAMING X SLIM Graphics Card

The parts not displaying RGB at all:
MSI X870E Carbon Wi-Fi Motherboard I/O Shield.
Arctic Liquid Freezer iii 420 A-RGB AIO CPU Cooler (shroud and fans not responding) currently on JARGB_V2_1.

The parts showing RGB, but not responding to Mystic Light:
Lian Li O11 Dynamic Evo XL RGB (Case) currently on JARGB_V2_2 - stuck in the default rainbow cycle it started in.
Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RAM - also stuck in the default rainbow cycle it started in.
(I wouldn't expect the RAM to respond to Mystic Light, but since I uninstalled iCUE as part of my troubleshooting, I decided to include it in this list).

All components work perfectly otherwise, so they're all getting power and they're all visible to sensors, but none of the Lighting effects work properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could you get into MSI Center-Support-Live Update and click "Advanced" to check if there's FW available for udpate?

Just an fyi, I finally solved it a few days ago. Since reset CMOS did not fix it, I rolled back the motherboard bios to the prior version. It started working fine then, and then re-upgrading to the latest bios - still working fine. So something got corrupted on the BIOS, it appears, and a fresh flash was required. All is well again.

Hello, I am actually running into the same issue. Im just curious. Which bios did you revert back to if you dont mind me asking?

Whatever was the second newest back on April 10, 2025. Not sure which version it was, but honestly I don’t it made a difference which version. The key was to flash an entirely new version on there. Are you having the same issue?

I just had the same problem with my new build X870 Carbon. Reprogram BIOS with the same version fixed it. But later on problem happened again.

I narrowed it down to be the problem with pressing the LED button on the chassis. If you pressed it consecutively very fast, it will think you are holding the button and disconnect the control from BIOS.
All you have to do it hold the LED button for a few seconds to make it sync up again.
I think it will depend on your case, below is mine:

From the case manual:
LED Switch Button Function
  • Single press to toggle between LED effects.
  • Long press for three seconds to sync with the motherboard.
  • Long press for six seconds to turn off the lights. The light will flash twice. To turn the lights back on, press the button once.

Interesting. I had never touched it…

Hello! Bringing back this tread because I'm not sadly running into the same issue.... Did you end up finding a good reliable solution? I've tried reverting the old Bios and lights still didn't work on MB, then went back to the newest version and still nothing... Feeling cooked tbh
Did you revert to an old enough version based on the original post dates in this thread?

No, I just went to the version prior to the most recent update. I downloaded mystic light and the lights are working as of right now. If the problem persists, I'll try what you mentioned and update the BIOS to a version based on this thread and then update back to the newest one.

Yeah that’s what you should do to be consistent with my findings at least. That said, if it works now, no touchy! 😅
