I use a Samsung S23U phone and the type-C connector on the front panel keeps disconnecting and reconnecting.
MSI super charger+ Which devices are supported?
I tried two Samsung phones and a Black Shark phone and both had similar issues.:sick:

I still have the same problem. I am running the latest bios 7E49v1A23 and latest chipset 7.01.08.129 for X870e Carbon Wifi
I have the latest MSI Center 2.0.48.0 and after scanning everything is up to date. I do not see this super charger+ on the MSI Center. Yes, I also have the extra PCIE connected.

My S23 Ultra connects and disconnects. I tried a smaller cable as suggested but the issue remains.
For my iPad Pro. It charges but it doesn't even transmit data. I guess due to a higher current given its battery size but unlike my S23 Ultra, I cannot disable fast charging.

On the plus side, the latest bios fixed the Od reboot error if you were running hardware monitoring software.

Since I have so many ports, I might just give up on this and use a slower charger. I will try my luck with this

It will make transfer speed slower but at least the USB C port will be usable.

What is the point of having fast charge if it cannot be used nor we can use it to transfer data. I will report this again to MSI. Sure, I can disable fast charging on my S23 Ultra but I can't do the same for my iPad.

If anybody found a solution or share the Super Charger App to disable fast charging that would be awesome.

Ticket:
USB C PD Charging - No dice

Content:
The wattage output is just (V) x (A). 5 volts x 5.4 amps = 27 watts. It is not specified as a PPS in the user manual, only PD. Rear ports are not rated for PD, no.

It would depend on whether or not the phone is capable of simply drawing 27W or if it's trying to pull more. I don't personally know enough about smartphones to analyze that, but presumably since they can charge off of regular USB chargers, they should be able to. It sounds like a hardware problem, but ultimately we won't be able to tell unless you send it in.

I went back and forth with support for a while, but ultimately it seems like this is a hardware limitation of the motherboard. My smartwatch, Pixel Watch 3, charges fine. My gen 1 iPad Pro (18W USB-PD) also charges fine. Other devices, like my keyboard and mouse, also charge fine on this port. As stated earlier, my Pixel 9 Pro disconnects over and over until I get a USB surge error in Windows. I'm reading these charger specs correctly, it seems that 37W with PD and PPS is required for this phone to fast charge. It looks like the Samsung S23 Ultra can do 45W with a PD and PPS charger. Does charging not work on this motherboard because it doesn't support PPS? Maybe, but I am not sending my motherboard in for them to look at over this issue. I'll just use my wall charger.

I will re-open the ticket with them as well. I just tried a hub connected to the USB C port. My iPad says no charging but transferring data is working now and I just completed a back up to my computer.
I guess the options are
1) Pray MSI fixes the issue
2) Use a hub with USB C to use the port
3) Choose slow charging if your device support this. I can't figure this out in iOS but I am not surprised.
4) I haven't tried this but I will. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CPFRZL6Y?smid=ALN5LVZ7O811J&psc=1 this will make data and slow charging available. At least the USB C will be usable. Given my hub worked. I hope this workaround works. I do not care too much about fast charging but I want my USB C to be usable with my iPad.

If anyone found a better solution please let us know.

I have the same issue, it's so nasty with the new S25, hate it... What is MSI doing not fixing this for like 5 months? Probably my last MSI motherboard, this is ridiculous, took me ages to find this thread, was blaming the cable and mobile phone at first...

I was able to update the PD firmware! It fixed my issue with my S23 Ultra. Finally. Please note, if your phone charge is less than 10% it may disconnect not frequently but a bit here and there. Once is above 12% or so it is stable. I have been testing it right now. It is annoying for a minute or so given it quickly charged to 12%. This is my first time testing it with a low battery of 4% though. But yes, it has been stable after 12% with fast charging, data and no disconnects so far. I consider this fixed for me at least.

For those using iPad Pro M4. We are out of luck. It seems it doesn't support USB 3.2 gen 2x2. :( If you have other generation iPad the USB port will for sure work.
I will try to use a coupler to reduce the speed to 10Gbps to have 3.1 gen 2 x1 and update you on it. The issue is with Apple now. I am sure the coupler will fix the problem for my iPad since a hub helped me connect the iPad to my computer with slow data but not charging capabilities.

Best of luck everyone.

Yes, the download and install problem with PD firmware from Live Update is now fixed.

I use x870e Carbon wifi currently using BIOS ver. 1A23 and the problem isn't fixed, before the 0104 PD FW update it was disconnecting frequently and not charging properly but NOW after the 0104 update the type-c port completely disabled i can't connect anything no response. Anyone else still having issues on x870e carbon wifi? cause i still have issues. Any fix/suggestions?

To fix the USB C completely disable. Simply turn the switch of the PSU or disconnect the cable. Press the power button for 5 seconds or so. This will ensure all power is depleted. Connect it back and it should work.
I had this issue after several disconnects and connects with my iPad since I tried to make it work but unfortunately is not compatible with USB 3.1 gen 2x2. I thought I screwed it up when the USB C got completely disable and my phone was not recognized. Doing the above fixed it for me.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone at MSI working on firmware and also those in this thread. Like many others i had this issue since I got my motherboard however I am happy to say that the front USB C is working well now after BIOS/firmware updates!
I did have to do above suggested power down and switch off psu for the port then clear power to work but after that its working as normal.:beerchug:

What’s the point of having 27W charging capabilities if you can’t actually use them? My Samsung A54 (which supports 25W charging) briefly enters "Super Fast Charging" mode before it starts repeatedly disconnecting and reconnecting. On Linux, I see “over-current condition” kernel warnings.
Does MSI provide the firmware files in bin or cap formats?

Sorry to thread necro but I just got the msi x870e godlike (bios 1.A24) and I also have front USB-C disconnecting and reconnecting issue when connected with my samsung s23 ultra. I tried very short 9 inch cable that came with a 20gbps usb-c to nvme adapter (plus whatever my internal cable length is) and my usual 6 foot long usb 3.2 2x2 (20gbps) PD certified cable from cablematters, same thing.

I installed MSI center 2.0.50.0 (i started with 2.0.41.0 which is what I had on hand but it didnt find any updates or have supercharger), ran the advanced live update, and it found a "PD FW Update" from version 0102 to 0104. The update said it had to reboot my system immediately after the update so i let it reboot. After rebooting, it still has disconnecting and reconnecting. I turn off the computer entirely and unplugged the power supply for a few minutes so all the power would dissipate. I powered it back on and connected my s23u phone and it is still disconnecting and reconnecting. I checked the supercharger app and it is negotiating to 9 volts and the power consumption rises up to about 27-30 watts then the phone disconnects, reconnects, and the same thing happens forever. The phone battery is about 30% right now. I double checked live update on msi center and no updates were found.

This seems like a huge problem for a $1100 motherboard. It can't solve a power issue? I have the 8 pin power connector next to the ATX plugged in (it was a 6 pin for previous generation, which did work for like 2 months then something burned out and it would only charge at normal speeds thereafter, that board is currently pending RMA)

If I switch the internal USB port to the one without supercharging, then it doesnt disconnect, but then the phone does not fast charge. This is not a good solution.

After upgrading the BIOS to 7E49v1A27, I checked if there is any PD firmware update and it seems like there is (version 0105). After the PD update and restart the issue solved for me.

I found this thread while searching for info on Google about the same issue. I am currently experiencing it with a Z890 ACE motherboard and a S4 Ultra.
BIOS version 7E22v1A4

The issue seems to manifest when the charging power exceeds 25 watts, and it appears to only affect my phone as I was able to charge a battery using the full 65 watts.

FYI: The new PD firmware 0114 has fixed the issue.

For more details and guide for other boards Z890 & X870:

I am running BIOS version 7E49v1A27 on the mpg carbon x870e and did the PDFW104 update. No more PD updates show up on the live scan. I get a power surge error on a usb hub with just a type a usb stick. My phone or a controller dont even connect to the pc, when using it.

any of you tried disabling C-state in bios?
are you running expo stock? might have too much/not enough SoC v, at least those are the only times i got disconnects on builds with amd
If you disable C-STATE in BIOS, you won't be able to use core BOOST, so you will end up for example running 9800x3D exclusively at 4700 mhz.

Asking out of interest

How do you know your Front USB-C on your case supports PD charging up to 27 watts, and it is not causing the problem?

I have the tomahawk z890 wifi and even after updating the firmware the issue of usb port connecting and disconnecting still persists.
It only works if I turn off fast charging on my phone. Does anyone know how to fix this?
