XMP issues(i think)

So, I recently got some new ram. It’s 32gb of ddr4 and has marketed speed of 3600mhz. I put the ram in and went to bios to turn xmp on so I could get that 3600 and when I saved and restarted there was no boot. So I manually adjusted speed to 3000 and it booted. It seems to be that any speed over 3000mhz will not boot. I have an msi z270 gaming pro carbon and an i5-7600k. Any ideas on what would cause this? Help would be greatly appreciated.

That's normal for that 8 years old CPU.
You run the CPU IMC way out of specs.

Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type) : 64 GB
Memory Types : DDR4-2133/2400, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V

As general rule: more memory you have, lower speed you can achieve.
For 2x8GB memory you might have a chance of stability at 3200-3600.
But for 2x16GB around 2933 is the best you can get.
So if your system is rock stable with the memory at 3000 you should be very happy.
