Z170a Gaming M7 Ab BIOS error code after first setup

Hi everyone,

Since some time I have been experiencing a problem in which the BIOS setup becomes inaccessible after the first configuration. Basically, if I try to go to bios using Windows advanced restart menu, or pressing Delete on boot, will show the PC has recieved the order to go to the BIOS menu and, after a few seconds, both screens turn black. The MoBo display shows code "Ab", which upon investigating seems to mean "starting BIOS setup", but nothing happens.

Both screens are connected to the MoBo output as I am using the iGPU of an i7-6700K.

EDIT: Pressing the Clear CMOS button resets the BIOS configuration and let's me gain access to the BIOS setup again, but I would like to properly identify the problem and fix it.

What am I doing wrong?

After playing around with the motherboard, disconnecting everything but a monitor and the keyboard, it's still happening. Funnily enough, sometimes it's possible to access the BIOS by pressing F11 and selecting "Enter setup" on the Boot menu, but it's not guaranteed to work. I would like to ask more info about the BIOS process and what Ab exactly entails.

Ab is a normal posting code after booting is completed.
What monitor you use and how is connected to the GPU?

Try leave only one connected at the time [HDMI preferred] and connect it to primary GPU.
