Just this morning I updated the bios to the latest one which is 7C80v18. Update went fine and when the pc rebooted, no display was shown and the cpu debug was lit and stayed on. After 3 hours I power cycled the pc and the had same result of the CPU Debug led being lit.
I have tried everything from removing/replacing the cpu, putting one stick of ram in the first or second slot, cmos reset (battery removal and replacement), removing all usb devices and gpu etc, still no luck.
Wondering if anyone else had this issue and what they did or if they had to RMA the board.

Hello, exactly the same problem. The motherboard has crashed after updating to the latest version that was available from the MSI application. I hope MSI will take it upon itself. The motherboard is under warranty bought in the tolvulistinn store
Greetings from Iceland.

Not only happening on this board , happen to me on the MSI Z490 Gaming Edge yesterday too going from V16>V17 via M-Flash

RMA is the only fix I have been told - 2-4 week wait - not possible , it is my new CAD Workstation.....

MSI ppl. are checking for this issue, with different hardware combinations and so far that issue can't be duplicated.

To anyone who has this issue, can you please provide those details:

* From which BIOS version to which you have flashed to?
* What CPU you use?
* How the BIOS was flashed? M-flash? Live Update? Other way?

Thanks

Ok, I start even though I already got a replacement board, but I'm still interested what caused this.

1. My board is a Z490 Tomahawk and I flashed from 7C80v17 to 7C80v18.
2. I used M-Flash to update the BIOS, which completed successfully.

CPU debug LED lights and doesn't continue with post process.

I think they want a full hardware list
something like this
You can get all of this if you have done a CPU-Z Validation

Argh. Just submitted a question tech support RMA ..
I updated from 1.7 to 1.9 via USB M-Flash it completed but upon reboot no display and CPU light is on.
Have a i7-10700k also and the z490 MPG Carbon Gaming Wifi... Surely there is some way to fix other than posting for RMA?! Seems insane.

unplugged everything, cmos battery everything just have power cord. CPU light just turns on right away. Regardless even if ram is out. Couldn't happen at a bloody worse time. ffs..
the M-Flash in Bios completed but following reboot just nothing. Have both the onboard displayport and hdmi into a monitor to no luck. sigh

I contacted MSI tech support with this similar problem with the B450 Max Tomahawk mobo with an AMD Ryzen 5 2600x CPU. I attempted the update via 'live update' as I've done many times before with success. Also, CPU debug LED is on even with no CPU installed. Also did the USB Flash Bios per manual and still nothing. BIOS version attempted update: 7C02v3B

This is an unrelated problem, i'm pretty sure. For Z490, there are potentially dangerous BIOS updates available. For B450, nothing of the sort has been reported yet, so you have an isolated case with some other background.

Of course the CPU debug LED will light up when there is no CPU in the socket. The engine light in your car will also come on when you take the engine out, i reckon 😄

For the Flash BIOS Button method, you have to do it exactly by the book. Rename the file to MSI.ROM and all that stuff. Try different USB sticks and try formatting them to FAT32 using Rufus.

Not isolated.....just search b450 and you will see other similar events. CPU debug LED is on with CPU in and out.....got it? No memory installed.....does RAM LED light up? Nope! Flash bios method was done per manual and with different sticks all formatted per manual. nuffsed! Theory......using Live Update could lead to the impending disaster. I've yet to get any reply from support.

Ok, i haven't searched for it specifically, but i take your word for it.

CPU debug LED is on with CPU in and out.....got it? No memory installed.....does RAM LED light up? Nope!

The CPU debug LED will come on with a CPU problem and a missing CPU. Look at the manual: "CPU - indicates CPU is not detected or fail." But the EZ Debug LEDs usually stop then, so it will stay on CPU LED and not proceed to RAM when there's a CPU problem or CPU missing. Without a CPU or with a CPU problem, it can't properly test the RAM, because the memory controller is inside the CPU.
