hello was wondering if anyone knew where to find the guide to m.2 and sata set up

for instance, if i put an m.2 in the m1 slot does it cut from graphics lanes. if i put it in slot m2 does it cut from second x8 lanes if i put my m.2 in m3(from chipset) does it cut from sata ports or from expansion slots
the new msi carbon wifi pdf manual does not seem to think you need this information and does not have this guide

If you check the Z790 Carbon page on the MSI website, you'll see in the main page area that the first slot is PCIe 4.0, and the 2nd slot is the PCIe 5.0.
The specifications on the site say: *PCI_E1 slot will be Gen5x8 when installing M.2 SSD in the M2_2 slot.

As for the SATA setup, the top 4 slots are direct SATA from the CPU, the bottom 2 are from a 3rd party controller.
Some ppl have reported the slots from the 3rd party controller to have issues (black screens, hanging during boot initialization) so I'd advise to use the top 4 first.

ty for replies. lol i asked the same question on linus tech tips forum and got an answer in couple of hours. the top m.2 is direct to cpu gen 4 one below is 5th gen to cpu. top 4 sata are through chipset bottom 2 are diect to cpu, which is in the manual. and for me i had the same issue with the bottom 2 sata but only when i started updating windows 11. seems to be a fastboot issue with windows 11. turn it off in your power management settings and seems to do ok. not sure if its a windows 11 only issue or not. just hope they fix it.
