Hey all,

About 6months ago I bought a Z87 G45 Gaming board for my newish PC setup. It worked fine (apart from a HDD hotswap issue that a BIOS update sorted out), but it started to give errors when trying to boot. Often simply saying please insert a bootable drive or that my drive has errors.

Fast forward to today, I got my SSD replaced because I assumed that it was broken. So samsung sent me a brand new 500gb EVO ssd. I can't even load windows on to it currently. I boot from my USB with windows 8.1pro on it. I select my SSD, Press 'New' and just let windows create all those System partitions. Select the main partition and install onto it. It all seems to work fine until it restarts itself.

Either 2 things happen when it restarts. It just boots off the USB again, or says the disk has errors and needs to be repairs or won't even recognise there's anything installed on it. I just remove the USB once it's reset to stop it booting off the USB again, but it still won't boot off the SSD regardless.

Someone suggested there may be an issue with my 'Boot BCD', so I tried repairing that following some insturctions and all that happens is; "The requested system device can't be found", so I can't do that. When it scanned for windows installations it actually found 1 drive, just can't do anything further

It's not my SATA cables, I've tried 3 all with the same issue. It's not my Hotswap bays as I've hooked up directly with the same issues. It's not the SSD as it's brand new. My other specs are as follows;

PSU - 850W antec signature bronze
Mobo - Z87 g45 gaming
Mobo BIOS version - 1.9 (The latest)
CPU - i5 4670k (stock clocks, never OC'd)
RAM - 16GB 1600mhz
HDD - 2TB seagate
SSD - 500gb samsung evo (this is set to the primary harddrive)
GPU - Dual HD7950's
Case - Lian Li Tyr

Anyone got any idea what is up with this? I'm downloading another windows 8.1pro incase my bootable USB somehow has been corrupted, but if it's not that I have no idea. Any extra info you need just ask, I'm not really sure what is important and what isnt.

Thankyou, Aaron.

disconnect any storages and leave only the newest SSD where you planning to install your OS

also set 1st boot to your SSD

attach the USB key who contain the Windows installation, press F11 after power up at bios post screen,
then select your USB key to boot from it and proceed with OS installation
[in OS install process reformat the SSD, delete existing partitions if there is any prevision created and let windows create a new one from scratch]

Thankyou :D

For the time being it is working. However, I have to press F11 each time I turn it on and select Windows Boot Manager. I've tried putting the SSD first in the boot order and putting UEFI Harddrive first, they both tell me to insert bootable media, however the boot manager option (Which isn't in the bios boot order) seems to work fine.

Cheers, Aaron.

which storage is this?

you have attached your HDD now or? you haven't removed it when you installed the OS?

My SSD.

I did remove the HDD while installing the OS, it's back in there now (it booted up so I put it back in since half my drivers are on it). The HDD is not in the bootlist at all. I have 2 options within the BIOS, my SSD or the UEFI Harddrive. Or when I press F11 it comes up with Windows Boot Manager which will boot from my SSD. But it doesn't seem to simply boot from the SSD without me forcing the Windows Boot Manager option.
