Z87-GD65 - updated BIOS gives no USB at all

hi,

i had the MSI live update application, well, updating my BIOS recently.

and now my whole system is non-functional
what an update!

when booting i can use the keyboard to get into the BIOS/EFI settings

but as soon as windows 8 x64 starts all USB connections are disconnected.

any suggestions on the settings that i have to have to enable windows 8 to function again?

i have tried the CMOS

reset BIOS to defaults

enable/disable WINDOWS features in the BIOS

I had a tick list on an A4 paper ...
and i have filled one side of that sheet already

i have also tried to use the second BIOS (mb HAS 2 BIOS chips)

that brings WIN8 X64 to work but no USB port is available.

i have tried different ports with different keyboards and USB sticks - not even a blink ..

in fact, there is an initial blink of electricity but then ... nothing!

please let me know if you would like further info to be able to assist me.
i am so.... tired of battling against this MB!

I would probably just contact MSI for an RMA. It sounds like whatever happened has really messed up the motherboard.

If the 2nd BIOS won't give you USB function, that pretty much would confirm that there is a hardware issue in my opinion.

i have had this board for almost a year now

would this qualify for an RMA?

One thing: try it outside of the case on non conductive surface like wooden table or motherboard box.

unfortunately i managed to break a pin in the USB header for the front-panel.

and the board still does not work...

i will take the option that I should have taken from the first day i tried to use this board.

throw it in the rubbish bin where it belongs.

I will be buying something that works from Gigabyte or ASRock
MSI is a brand that i will avoid & ensure that i share this view with other too.
This MB failed from the go.

It's not really failure, it's rather that you didn't read description of flashing BIOS which is done solely at your own responsibility and risk.
And you broke pin of USB header so it's not fault of the motherboard but your own.

BIOS updating is a necessary thing as MSI does not support my GPU on its mainstream BIOS updates.
as it happens, another member of the forum told me that these BIOS updates were actually supported by MSI:

ABOUT the broken pin ..
well, if this motherboard worked as it was supposed to - there would be no need to spend days trying to troubleshoot it

in short, I would say **avoid** MSI like to plague
