Z97 Gaming 5, BIOS 1.7 PS/2 bug?

I recently noticed in Device Manager that Windows (8.1) was attempting to load drivers for a PS/2 keyboard.  Well... I don't have one.  So I went into the BIOS system explorer and sure enough the port was shown as enabled as if something was connected.

I'm currently running BIOS v1.7.  I was previously running v1.4 and I'm 'reasonably sure' that this wasn't happening then.  It's been a few weeks since I updated.  Not a big deal as everything is working fine otherwise, but figured I'd post something.

Dose your mouse/keyboard plug in the ports under PS/2 port? Where do you plug them? I'm just wondering if it's defective PS/2 port..

They're in the top 2 USB ports to the left of the PS/2 port (the 'gaming device' ports).

I would suggest to reinstall chipset driver and ME driver to see if works.

I've found the solution (sort of).

It just occurred to me that when I updated to BIOS 1.7 I also started using MSI Fast Boot in the Win8/8.1 options.  Turn it off and the PS/2 port is no longer active.  Set to 'normal' Fast Boot, and it's still inactive.  Set it back to MSI Fast Boot, and it's active again.

So, definitely looks like something that would probably have to be fixed in the BIOS (or maybe this is for some reason intentional?).  I'll still leave it on though so long as it's not causing trouble because when they say 'fast boot' they aren't f*****' kidding.  Being able to reboot directly to the BIOS is kinda nice as well since my keyboard never turns on fast enough.  ;)

Edit:and now it's no longer showing up in Windows Device Manager with MSI Fast Boot enabled even though what I posted above about the BIOS system explorer remains true.  Guess it might actually be a glitch with MSI Fast Boot option, the MSI Fast Boot program/utility (version 1.0.1.5), a glitch with the System Explorer or some combination.
Edit edit: didnt have hidden devices shown.  Oops.  Same behavior as above, port active with nothing attatched when MSI Fast Boot is enabled.

Cheers again  :emot-tip-wink:
