MSI Z97 Gaming 7
MSI GTX 970 Gaming
Corsair Vengeance Pro 1866 CL9 16GB Dual Kit (XMP 1866mhz 1.500v 9.10.9.27)
Intell Pentium G3258 (Just sold my 4690k, and waiting for my new 4790k)
Corsair CX750M
Samsung 850EVO 500GB SSD
Corsair H100i Cooling.
Good airflow trough case, low temps on all components.

I have a issue with Dimm 2 & 4 when using XMP on my memory.

While using Dimm 2 & 4 my memory have alot of problems. Gets error in most torture test's (Intell burn in, OCCT Linpack, Prime95), random crashes, and so on. Also have got alot of errors in Memtest86+. It is quite random, sometimes it can work for several hours before it gives any error, other times it does that instant.
This does not happend while the memory is used without "overclock" 1333mhz.

But if I use Dimm 1 & 3, i have no issues. I have stable memory, no error's in Memtest86+, Prime95, Intell BurnTest and OCCT Linpack can work for hours, no random crashes in windows and so on.

The motherboard have got the latest FW, i have cleared CMOS, and tried about anything. I can also mention that the memory get slightly better "score" in a benchmark program when i tested it in Dimm1&3 rather than 2&4. Have tested several times, under same temps, and circumstances (~2890-2940 in 2&4, and ~2960-3040 in 1&3)

Try re-seating CPU and see if problem remains. It could be that there may be bent damaged/bent pins in the CPU socket so examine the socket for possible damage. Also examine the problem RAM slots for possible damage to contact fingers.

Condition you describe is usually caused by bent pin(s) in CPU socket or improperly seated CPU.

Have tried re-seating the CPU, but that did not make any difference. Spent a long time looking over all the pins in the socket, and everything lines up just perfect.

Found out that if i use only one ram there is no problem using XMP. But as long as i have Dual, XMP is useless. It will boot windows, but every kind of burn and ram test will get error allmost instant.

I also get errors using slot 1 & 3 as i have tested further. So by now, only thing not making problems with XMP is a single Memory stick.

Still, no problems or errors while memory is at 1333mhz and Dual. No difference if it is in 1&3 or 2&4.

Did the memory and XMP profile work fine when you had the 4690k installed?

I'm thinking the real problem is the Intel G3258 processor and it's limited memory configurations. While the motherboard might support XMP, the memory controller on that processor is probably not happy with XMP timings.

That's just a guess, but to me that is what would make the most sense. Especially once you put 2 sticks in.

Just got my 4790k today, and it was just able to boot with XMP (2 out of 3 times) but i get BSOD as fast as i use any program that put some work on the memory or cpu.

Still no problem at all as long as i don't use XMP.

Offhand, what version of the BIOS is currently installed? Maybe there's an update that fixes the issue? If you aren't using at least 1.6 or 1.7, preferably 1.7, there could be issues, since according to the release notes for both 1.6 and 1.7 the updates included improved memory capability.

Using 1.9.

But got to test the memory in another simular machine, and the exact same problems.
So i just bought a set of Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x4ghz 2133mhz and my computer is running smooth. No problem what so ever with XMP and 2133mhz either.

Corsair just approved RMA on the 16gb set, so im sending it back to them.
