hi everyone. I hope someone could help me. This is my setup I just built:

MSI Z97M Gaming (latest bios updated, v1.4)
Intel Core I5 4690S Cpu
2 sticks of Gskill DDR3 (2x4GB) 2400Mhz
Nvidia 970GTX 4GB PCIE video card
Samsung EVO 840 - 250GB SSD (latest firmware updated)
Corsair 750W PSU

And this is the problem: when i boot (from USB) Windows 7 SP1 setup, it runs fine until it asks me for a driver (which is missing) in order to proceed with installation. I suppose it's SATA driver, so I've copied last version of Asmedia SATA driver in my usb key. But when i point to it, windows setup says that no driver has been found! So it doesn't show the ssd and I can't proceed with setup. I've tried every subfolder of the "asmedia_sata_win78" main folder.

Also, I set LEGACY+UEFI mode in bios. I've also tried IDE mode for the sata controller, but nothing works

Any suggestion, please? Sorry for the bad english

Hi, thanks for your reply. My ssd is connected to SATA port n.1. Port n.2 is empty. On port 3 i've put a LG DVD/RW unit (sorry for not mentioning this earlier)

It's a strange issue, windows 7 (SP1) doesn't see any controller/hard disk connected.

I've just tried with MSI DVD provided with the motherboard, with Intel or asmedia folders, but nothing

The whole pc seems otherwise to run fine, since I've tried using linux ubuntu live from USB

Nothing is overclocked

oki, then those ports are Intel one not asmedia

try use those drivers instead to load them in win installation:
http://downloadmirror.intel.com/24006/eng/f6flpy-x64.zip

Thanks but no way... Windows says no driver found

I've put the unpacked drivers in my usb pendrive

Bios setup correctly recognizes my ssd and my dvdrw as well as the thumb-drive. Everything seems to run fine in bios, but windows7 doesn't see any controller so no hd to install

Is there perhaps some setting i should change in bios setup?

try load setup defaults, or do >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed

the Win7 installation disk which version it is? x64 bit? Home? Ultimate? is it original one?
sure it has SP1 integrated?

Win7 Ultimate (original), copied on a bootable pendrive. Since it does't let me choose the ssd for installation, I still can't select 32 or 64 bit version as I should.  Sure it has SP1.

I've tried this driver during installation: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24501

the x86 version, the 2nd one, since it's the only one which lets me choose "Intel 9 series chipset SATA AHCI controller", but still no hd visible. Intel 64 bit driver doesn't even let the controller appear on screen.

I've correctly cleared cmos. I've also physically detached the dvdrw unit, now only the samsung ssd is connected to sata port n.1

The bios setup sees correctly (as before) the samsung ssd

Still, I boot from usb drive, still I point to intel 32bit storage drivers, still windows shows "Intel 9 chipset series SATA AHCI controller". But it doesn't find the hard disk

And I wonder why only 32bit intel drivers show "intel 9 chipset SATA AHCI controller", while 64bit ones show nothing at all. Is perhaps windows7 setup software only 32bit?

sorry for bothering so much!

do you have any other storage to try say standard HDD? to try it instead this SSD

Still, I boot from usb drive, still I point to intel 32bit storage drivers, still windows shows "Intel 9 chipset series SATA AHCI controller". But it doesn't find the hard disk

i suspect something isn't ok with your installation disk
since its unclear is it 32bit or 64bit and since accept 32bit drivers only

can you use a better one? and to make sure that it would have SP1 integrated

I'll try with the DVD.

And I hope to borrow some standard sata hdd as soon as possible

I'll keep you updated since the issue could affect other users... again, thanks

Use this, very recent Win7 original MS$ Installation disk:

Windows 7 SP1 Media Refresh (SP1-U),
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 English:
http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-59465.iso

create bootable USB key from this .ISO, you can use this MS$ tool to prepare it:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool

then retest

Hi, problem solved, many thanks Svet

It was really my windows disk gone bad or something... even the original dvd didn't work. I've downloaded the Microsoft 64 bit iso and everything works flawlessy.

My fear was that some incompatibility could be arisen between motherboard and solid state disk. Luckily not the case.

Thanks again  and greetings from Italy
