K9N SLI PLATINUM shutdown issue help!
« on: 13-September-06, 21:49:53 »

WELL, I BUILT MY PC 2 WEEK AGO, AND IT WORKS FINE 2 DAYS! AFTER THAT DRIVES ME CRAZY! MY PC HAVE RANDOM SHUTDOWNS! CAN BE AFTER 5 MINUTES, 30 MINUTES OR EVEN 1 DAY! ONE THING THAT INCREASE THE FRECUENCY OF SHUTDOWN IS COPYING DATA FROM CD/DVD, WHEN I START A COPY/PASTE FROM CD TO MY SATA DISK THE SYSTEM POWER OFF SUDENNLY! THE SYSTEM COOLER, SATA DISK, FAN COOLER AND ALL THE SYSTEM LOST ENERGY! ONLY THE "POWER LED" ON THE CASE REMAINS TURNED ON AND FLASHING.IF I PUSH THE POWER/RESET BUTTONTHE SYSTEM NOT RESPONSE, THE ONLY WAY TO TURN ON MY PC IS DISCONNECTING THE POWER CORD AND CONNECTING THE POWER CABLE AGAIN.

I TRY CHANGING THE HD, MEMORY, IDE CABLES, DVD UNIT, SATA CABLE AND NOTHING! ANY SUGGESTION?

I think that in your case it helps if you change your UDMA setting for IDE to 3. Many similar issues have been discussed here (just search for "UDMA") and this seemes to help for many people.

You could also try updating your BIOS.

Also, please dont type your whole posts in Caps as this is taken as shouting and may be perceived the wrong way by some members.

Hi guys, i try formatin' my system, but, with a little difference: WHITOUT DRIVERS! And it seems to be solved! I've installed nvidia last driver, realtek HD Audio driver, ans serial BUS driver, BUT there're a "performace" driver that replace the windows driver about "IDE CONTROLLER" to "Nvidia IDE COntroller", that supposedly increase system performance decreasing the "bottle effect" into IDE-MOTHERBOARD comunication, well, I've OMIT that driver into the m570 SLI chipset and that's! 2 days without system shutdown! :D I'm downloadin' a DVD image of 3,9GB, I've burned some CDs/DVD and it works!!!! the shutdown issue seems to be "Nvidia IDE CONTROLLER" unnistall it! :D

That's both good and bad news .  :bonk:
Good news of couse it the by gone of the shutdowns.
Bad news for those wanting to run raid , cause raid only works in conjunction with the nvidia sataide controller on the disks used in raid  (not microsofts) .

Get a better powersupply, as that Agiler is way cheap and probably not delivering what it should.
I have seen the label of the 700W version and it made me laugh very loud :lol_anim:

Get a serious PSU like the Enermax 465, yes that exact model, then you are sure it's not the PSU causing this ;-))

That label is a complete joke.....it's saying 700W (I know yours is 600W doesn't matter)....
When you multiply every amp with every voltage you just get to 700W....that's a real joke....
As no PSU can do that....your PSU is utterly crap my friend. ;-))

Just wait until a bit longer...that PSU will NOT last :lol_anim:

if you already use 9.16 as i gues couse cannot find anythink different, try this ones:
http://rapidshare.de/files/34113495/WinXP.rar.html    its for 32bit XP (should be compatible with your mobo.)

install 1st 9.16, after reboot, boot into DSP(Directory Service Repair) or Safe Mode. navigate to device manager and udpate it manually IDE and RAID drivers, by targeting extracted folder.

Cooler master PSU +12V@18a? I think you better get higher rails than that at +12v@>25a then it should be sufficient for future use. Unless you're not ocing too much then it should be sufficient. Gd luck.

Dude, you can't use a DOS flasher inside Windows, that will not work!
Also I doubt your PSU a lot.
I see Product No RS-500, but yet rated as 600W?

Also input off 220V of 6.3A?

Something is not quite right here....

My Enermax 465, has 220V 3A= 660W max input.
Output:

3.3V 35A
5V 35A
12V 33A

But rated as 460W

Yours is way below, and can do 600W? No way...not even near that...
BTW 2x18 split doesn't equal 36A ;-))

That's AFUWIN.exe , not dos flasher and should work from windows .
Anyway , you should stay off the liveupdate 3 util to update bios , and do it manually with AFUDOS and a floppy .

Re: K9N SLI PLATINUM shutdown issue help!

i have something of the same problem with my K9NSLI-2F motherboard, my problem seems to be coming from the network controller it's self as my system really only powers down when trying to download large files it can happen as soon as i start to download or 90 percent through it which can be quite annoying after a third attempt at downloading, i noticed i had some dcom errors in my system event viewer telling me: The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{BC866CF2-5486-41F7-B46B-9AA49CF3EBB1}
to the user NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE SID (S-1-5-19).  This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

after searching the CLSID in my registry i was able to track the item in component services as a service called NETMAN, i then edited the launch and activation permissions and added the user name LOCAL SERVICE and gave it allow permission for local launch and local activation.

i have also launched the web based interface for the nvidia network controller and changed the Performance Optimization Profile from cpu utilization to throughput, i dont know if all this has helped the issue as yet but since doing this last night iv been able to use the internet and download without the power down so far, i will post again if this has helped my problem completely.

jms45 look the topic  K9N Motherboard trouble info your mobo can be faulty

motherboard RMA'd thanks bud, just hope after having to pay for shipping back to re-seller they can recreate the problem during testing, and that my worst nightmare doesn't come true by them sending me a new board of the same revision  lol

hope rma doesn't take to long either right now I'm lucky enough to be using a machine i built for a friend but he should be coming to pick it up in a few days.

also read an advertisement in a magazine earlier for the msi k9nsli saying: the expert in dual-core platform, hmm... why am i sending my motherboard back again?

Osiricat, thank you so much!!!  I've been struggling with random shutdowns on a daily basis for two months and your answer FINALLY fixed it.  Since I uninstalled the NVidia IDE drivers, my rig's been up nonstop for 4 days -- a new record!  Whew!  I can finally stop beating my head against the wall.  MSI -- you might want to add this tip to your bag of tricks for this issue, at least until NVidia can fix their drivers!

Yup, I've been up for nearly 3 weeks now, without the nVidia IDE COntroller driver.  No shutdowns!  I wonder if the driver has a problem because it's technically a Windows 2000 driver.  Maybe 9.17 will work better in XP, but I'm extremely happy now.  Now, if I could just get ANYTHING to work in Vista other than Office 2007!   :bonk:

(after 20mints...) 100% complete ok... when the system restarts...appears a BLACK screen whit a banner charging... (like WINDOWS XP startin')... and is it forever...  banner charging.... banner charging.... I go to sleep.... the morning after... banner charging...  :wall: I resolve that issue changing the HD from SATA TO IDE!! and it works! i try vista 4 few days.... everything was ok (of course whitout installin' nvidia idesuxs drivers, but when i try to install vista on a SATA disk, the installation gotta hell!  :angryfire: vista BUG? or k9 damn?  :shocking: I try whit WD 80GB sata, WD sata 120GB, SEAGATE sata2 250 GB.... and the only way to get a succedded installation is on IDE HD... any suggestion?

How do I uninstall the nvidia ide drivers? Can anyone please help me? My computer keep turning itself off just like it does for the rest of you - I tried the udma 3 thingy and updating the bios (and everything else for that matter) but nothing seem to work. The computer works fine apart from when I try to start games..it has random shutdowns.

navigate to device manager, search for Nvidia PATA controller, double click on it, then go to Driver tab, and select "Roll back Driver". confirm with YES if asked. repeat procedure with Nvidia SATA controller. then reboot your machine to apply changes.

FYI, I just updated my nVidia system drivers to version 9.19, including the nVidia controller drivers, and so far, no crashing in 1 whole day!  I'll keep crossing my fingers and repost if I end up having problems and have to uninstall it.
