Ran into problems with new memory, so I'm going to try and update the BIOS on my K9A Platinum (running 1.4, but current is 1.9).
I had a look at the BIOS bootup sequence, but the only USB devices I see are USB CF, SM and MS ?? Looks like the cardreader ?? Can you boot from the USB ports on the front cardreader or do you have to use one of the 4 ports on the back (mobo) ??

In the "BIOS. What it is, and all you need to know" topic, it says that you need to clear the CMOS before flashing, but the manual doesn't mention that ?? How important is it ?

The point for Clear CMOS before flash, is to ensure that machine will be run at stock speed before flash and to solve eventually an messed up bios settings which can cause system to be unstable.

One should always go to stock settings before flashing.

Going by my experiences the past few days clearing the CMOS gives me a system that won't boot ... it says press F1 to set up.
Or will booting from the MSIHQ USB stick skip the setup prompt ??

Can't you go to stock settings by loading the Fail-Safe Defaults ?

Thank you guys, worked up great. I wasted already 2 days trying to flash my bios unsuccesfully by lot of means - live update, several DOS booting cds including those with NTFS support, but nothing worked. Your app did the job in 10 minutes of time.

BTW i am using windows 7 ultimate x64, it worked no problem on my system.

You guys should place donate button here

Tried to upgrade my K9A with bios 1.9 unsuccesfully ...
So before trying again with 1.8, should I reformat the USB stick with MSI-HQ or will it just overwrite all data ?? Using the SureHands method ...

This statement is a false claim.
You have no problem to update your board to 1.9 BIOS,
but this one doesn't work OK for your combination of parts used.
That's different things.

Nope, no need to reformat or do to anything.

There is nothing to explain, this that 1.9 doesn't work well for your machine has nothing to do with the Tool

Look man, I'm not trying to offend you or anything and I never blamed the MSI-HQ tool, i just said that upgrading to BIOS 1.9 was unsuccessful, which it was IMHO ... but that's the fault of the BIOS version, not MSI-HQ.

Hi,

I want to flash my P67-GD65 from bios v1.4 to 1.7 and i want to use the usb method.

I created a bootle usb stick with bios 1.7 (using msihq usb bootable tool) but just before i want to flash i get a warning which i cannot find here on the forum.

When pressing f8 the usb sticks loads and i get the menu. I choose 2 for updating bios
after that i press continue and  4 more blue lines appear. Sasying MSIQH Valdidation cannot be performed
It aks, continues yes/no? and some other lines which states it's not recommanded to continue..

So what's with this valdidation error?

UPDATE: never mind my problem. I manage to fix it. Appearently i got this error because the first time i aborted the update process (after memory check), i ran the usb tool again and now it went straight to the flashing.
Flashed successfully.

(PS thank god, that irritating bios sound is gone!)

Ok, so I´m having kind of a weird problem running this tool. I´ve downloaded and installed the tool successfully, but when I run it a command prompt pops stating an error message of some kind and then dissapears immidiatey. I have not been able to read the error. I´m running this on Win 7 64 bit, which seems to be supported. I´ve tried making sure the program is started with admin rights. Is there someone that understands what is wrong with my installation (I´ve reinstalled, rebooted, etc).

Not sure what to answer here. I have an MSI Laptop (GX660). After having read some other posts on this forum I am starting to doubt this tool is made to be used on MSI Laptops?

try running it within/from safe mode, there is some kind of conflict with your machine/os

Thx, I´ve tried that, but unfortunately that did not work. Still the same error. Is there any log that can be viewed in order to find out what the error message that is shown (too) briefly says?

Just want to inform you, that alwil's Avast! 4.7 Antivirus with latest scanning routines falsely identifies Win32:Trojan-gen. {Other} in the USBMSIHQ.exe file. I suppose the possible cause is, that the file is UPX packed, right?
Allready informed alwill about the issue.

Your Avast! 4.7 Antivirus is alrteady virus because avast does`n have support now for older antivirusuntill version 4.8...present version is Avast! 6.100 soo i can`t belive that tool is virus

If some AV makes alert, ignore it or Disable it, its false alert.

costy8203,

Your reply is worthless, as you responded to a reply made in May 2007, nearly four years ago.

I tried to use FIX MY Drive Tool, it broke my USB WD **SCAM ALERT** HDD, the tool dismounted the drive, failed complained about a missing file, and now Im no longer able to see the drive in my computer, and try to format it, it shows up in device manager.

I downloaded WD Diag Tool, and it can't write zeros to the drive it says failed.
