K9N DIAMOND / AUDIGY SOUND
« on: 11-May-08, 13:30:13 »

I have my new K9N DIAMOND system running after a little setback (see my other posts)
I only have one major issue at the moment, Everything else went together just the way it should and I had it built in around 2 hours tops, With plenty of preparation

I tried installing the CREATIVE SOUNDBLASTER driver/software disc with no luck (as mentioned in the BOSAMAR guide), It says audigy not installed, I was able to loadup an old set of drivers etc from my K8N SLI PLATINUM which has the SOUNDBLASTER 24bit LIVE! onboard sound

((NOTE)) K9N DIAMOND & K8N SLI PLATINUM have the same onboard sound although advertised as AUDIGY & LIVE!???, creative chip (CA-0106)

It installs and reads soundblaster LIVE! in the hardware manager???, Which is a let down as I paid for Audigy

I have been able to install one set of drivers which showed Audigy in the HARDWARE MANAGER, But when I tried to use one of the AUDIGY programs it says soundcard not installed again

I am still able to use the LIVE! software but I would be losing some of the features, I do have sound but only 2 channel (front), Im very dissapointed at this stage and would like some help or reccomendations as to what may or may not work to fix the problem
I know one which will cost me a new soundcard :nono:, I may have to go this way if I cannot get it working properly
Even the Audigy is getting a little dated now so installing an X-FI soundblaster would not be so bad :noidea:

There is small difference between, they are using the same sound chip.

Do you mean between AUDIGY & X-FI
One of the X-FI cards actually use the (CA0106) which is soundblaster LIVE!
It depends on the drivers I think

X-fi has much better software though which is mainly what im after
I was using the same software/CREATIVE SOUNDBLASTER LIVE! 24bit on a K7N2Delta way back, I was very dissapointed to find I basically have the same thing on the new K9N DIAMOND

Surely I must be able to loadup some decent drivers (AUDIGY) and have some fresh/better software/programs and hopefully unlock or have more features/adjustability

Have you tried the sound drivers from here at MSI?

http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1028

They may be newer than the ones you have on the CD. Good Luck.

That is the drivers that I have installed now with the problems mentioned

I'm thinking it may be a PSU problem, I have read about issues (somewhere in here, now to find the threads) with the 20-24 pin power connector on the MOBO
Aparently if I'm not using the 24pin plug it may cause some trouble with the onboard audio???

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Even a SoundBlaster Live should be able to handle more than two channels. Probably not a PSU problem, but you never know with those little things. Aspire is some way down the ladder, quality wise. The Thermaltake you got stated at 430W is far better than the Aspire at 550W.

The aspire 550w (20 pin plug, not 24?) is connected to the K8N SLI PLATINUM with no problems for over 2-1/2 years and complete excellent sound connected to a PIONEER VSX816 receiver via an SPDIF cable
I wanted the same but better for the new K9N DIAMOND (with the thermaltake PSU) but unfortunately it is giving me troubles, It has full surround in windows basically but when testing speakers in the speaker settings it only sounds out 2 (front) speakers, All the settings have been copied from the previous working setup with no luck, It is not running as AUDIGY, AUDIGY programs fail to start as mentioned
Thanks

As far as I know there is no Multi-channel Driver problem with Windows XP.... Only Win Vista got some SPDIF and multi channel problems (specially 64bit).. Vista only shows 2 channel mode for SPDIF but I managed to bypass it using AC3 filter SPDIF pass through for 5.1 AC3/DTS sound sources.  I also using SPDIF output for my Logitech Z5500 Digital..

You can try this 3rd party Audigy driver which fixed few SPDIF issues on Vista64..

I have an X-FI extreme music and an audigy 2 zs on the way so hopefully I can sort out the problem, I have read somewhere that the audio may perform better setup like this anyway, By disabling onboard sound which is not working anyway

any bugs problems with these cards?
Hopefully the X-FI will install no troubles in my K9N DIAMOND? :waiting:

i pulled my audigy2zs out of the tower and use now the onboard audigy with 7.1 speakers.

works better, no 4gb bug under xp x64 and guess what ? sounds great and performs better in 3dmark03 sound test :-)
at first i wasnt able to use the onboard sound, because msi has forgotten to ship the board with the jumper which has to be plugged on the board.
