Hi Guys, I had a look to see if I could find this problem anywhere but no joy, so I wonder if you can help?
My system spec should be in my signature but just in case :
  • MSI Media Live AM2 Barebone
  • Kingston 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Memory Non-ecc CL5 Unbuffered 1.8V
  • Samsung HD753LJ 750GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm *32MB Cache*
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3GHz) Socket AM2 L2 2MB (2 x 1MB) Cache
  • Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T 500 Dual digital DVB-T PCI TV Tuner card
  • Windows Vista32 Ultimate
The system seems to work fine except for the DVB-T, I know this Nova works because I have tried it in another machine where it works perfectly. The problem is that it is stuttering all over the place in the MSI via VistaMCE, its like it is failing to cope with writing the buffer to the hard disk and display the video through the on-board graphics either through the HDMI or a VGA cable. Tearing my hair out right now as I bought this barebone system to replace my noisy (but otherwise really good) xbox360 which is extending my VistaMCE from upstairs a treat.
Any help would be great
TIA
Danny.

MCE's support for DVB cards is terrible, I have a DVB-S card and MCE keeps on crashing.
You better try something else like Media Portal (or DVBDream).
MediaPortal is way and way better.

MCE is horror compared to other programs.

Probably a Vista issue, as I had the same card in my old mediacenter PC running Windows XP MCE 2005 and that worked a charm...

Hmmm, I'm confused now, the other machine that I have had the card in is a VistaMCE machine (albeit Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 and a bit more memory) and it works perfectly in that. I suspect that it isn't to do with the Nova-T now anyway as other video (hi def or otherwise) tends to be rather jerky too. I'm feelin a trip to the skip comin on  :D

Did you use the same aerial connection in the other machine? If not, poor TV signal will also cause the stuttering and skipping as you described.

Just for information, but I built myself a HTPC system using the Media Live, the same WinTV Nova-DT 500 tuner as topic starter and Windows Vista Home Premium.

I also got the same stuttering problem, which I discovered is caused by the default built-in Microsoft MPEG2 codec.

Fix:

# Purchase and install a third-party MPEG2 (DVD) codec, such as PowerDVD, WinDVD or Nvidia Pure Decoder.
# Download and run the Vista Decoder Selection Tool
# Change your video decoder from the Microsoft MPEG2 codec to the one you just installed
# Restart Windows Media Center, and you should find the stuttering a lot better. Any stuttering I get now, I know is down to bad TV signal!

If you use DVB, better try this program to watch TV: http://www.dvbdream.org/
I use it for DVB-S and it works like a charm, nothing comes close to their stability and speed.
