No power on my MSI P35 Neo F board!!
« on: 29-July-08, 14:07:12 »

Hi there...my old PC died on me a few weeks ago and when payday came along, I thought I would have an upgrade and bought a MSI P35 Neo F board with Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a new case with an ATX-450 power supply. I have connected all the leads/drives etc, but when I went to switch it on...nothing!!! I have swapped around the front power cable end, but still have no joy. No fans, just nothing. Has anyone had this kind of problem who could maybe shed some light on it?? Also, I have been looking, as my old MSI board (MSI 865 PE Neo 2-P) had a couple of LED's to show that it had power, but cannot find any on this one...are there any LED's that maybe I am just looking in the wrong place for them??

Try with another PSU. Read the >>Posting Guide<< too, so we can get a better idea of your system.

I tried my old PSU (20 pin, which still powers up my old motherboard, though the new one is 24 pin) and still no joy. Details of my new system are as follows (I have had to use a spare stick of memory as my old memory wouldn't fit and have had to use a spare graphics card as my old one also wouldn't fit)

CPU Brand: Intel Core 2 Duo (E7200) 2.53Ghz Processor 3072KB L2 cache 1066Mhz FSB
Motherboard Model: MSI P35 Neo-F
Memory: 1 x 256Mb Lenovo
Video Card: ATI Radeon R9250 128Mb PCI
HDD: 2 x SATA (1 x Seagate 500Gb, 1 x Maxtor 160Gb)
Operating System: Windows XP Pro SP3
PSU: Win Power ATX 450w (Input 230vac 5a max, 50Hz) (Output +12v 20a, +5v 40a, +3.3v 28a, -5v 0.5a, -12v 0.8a)

With my old motherboard, you can see lights and the fan comes on even though I have only put power to the motherboard and nothing else is connected...

Are you sure you plugged in all the required power connectors (24-pin, 4/8-pin)? Take the mainboard out of the case too. There might be something shorting the board.

Just tried taking the board out of the case and putting it on foam and still no power...starting to think there is a problem with the board...

Does the fans even spin?

I'm quite sceptical about your Lenovo 256MB RAM... How about trying other brands of RAMs?

Please use a screwdriver to short the two power-on pins on the mainboard's pin-header instead of using the power button of the case.
