DVDs not playing on media live
« on: 31-July-08, 00:53:32 »

My dvds arent playing back on my media live box. I am running wmc 2005. Message comes up saying files needed to display video are not installed or working properly. I installed power dvd and that worked....but as you know the whole point of buying the box is for htpc use. Any suggestions?

That is the message that MCE displays when either the video drivers are not installed, or there is no suitable MPEG2 codec installed.

I installed power dvd

Which version? Only v6 or higher is MCE compatible.

Thanks for your replies.....i took ur advice installed the lastest power dvd....version 8.  I even used the decoder utility to change wmc video driver to the new one(s). Now I am getting a new message in wmc saying: The dvd may be in used by another app.If all other apps are closed you resolution may need to be lowered or the display connection type may not support playback of the dvd. Eager to hear your advise....thanks.

I'm not familiar with the newest versions of PowerDVD, but check that it is not running in the taskbar tray when Windows starts up.

Why not?
Mine play every full screen when needed.
I just have to double-click the screen and it goes full screen.
But I use VLC-Mediaplayer.

rock007,

In Windows Media Center, press the (i) button on your remote (or right-click your mouse button), and toggle between the different Zoom settings to get it to display how you want.

:hat tip:

Wow....thanks again. One last thing...volume control. I find that my remote controls the volume in wmc...i can see the moving of the levels but theres no change of the actual volume....any solutions for that one.

Open the sound-mixer and check the levels there.
