Hybrid power & K9N2 Diamond
« on: 04-August-08, 21:02:41 »

I just buy my new config :

AMD Phenom 9950 Black Edition
MSI K9N2 Diamond Board
2x1GB Kingston DDR 1066 ram
2x 9800GTX Video cards
600 watt Silver Power - SP-600AC2 Powersupply
Vista 32 bit

I am not able to properly activate the hybrid sli.
I install the latest bios 2.1 of the motherboard and last drivers: nForce driver version 18.11, and driver gpu GeForce Release 177.79.

In the menu Hybrid Power there are three modes: "Save power", "Boost performance" and "additional displays."
At the windows start, I was in "Boost performance", I selected "Save power", the two graphics cards 9800 normally shut down.
Then I wanted to restart the 9800gtx by selecting "Boost performance", but nothing happened, the system remained at "Save power" after waiting a minute. Even after reboot the computer.

Is it normal ? bios update ?

Thanks for yours answers.

Thank you for your answer, but I think the bios doesn't not support hybrid sli or my motherboard suck... But I don't think it, because SLI work finely with "Boost performance", but when set to "Save power", it stay for all the time. For recover the "Boost performance" I uninstall the GPU 780A. It's very boring.

If someone with a K9N2 Diamond and bios 2.1 can tell my if hybrid sli works.

Thanks again.

Two possible reasons:
- The PSU might not be of the right kind. http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_9800gx2_pwr_supply.html
- You have an SLI configuration with 2 cards which cause problems.
- There is a driver problem, try 7.15.11.7451.

I have a similar configuration:

AMD Phenom 9950 Black Edition
MSI K9N2 Diamond Board
2x2GB OCZ DDR 1066 ram
1x 9800GTX Video card
900 watt PSU - Tagan
Win Vista Ultimate 64bit

and I have the same problem - after activating Hybrid SLI, there was the "Boost performance" mode and after changing to "Save power" mode I'm unable to change the mode again.

Now I'm downloading the newest whql drivers (released today?) 178.13, hope it will be OK. If not, please, can you help me where can I download the 7.15.11.7451 for Vista 64bit?

Thanks for all answers...

Simple enough to just Google that number and you get this.

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGIH_enUS244US244&q=nvidia+7.15.11.7451

Of course i tried this, but I don't want Asus Crosshair II Formula drivers and the drivers from versiontracker.com are wrong...

I reinstall vista in french, install internationnal drivers :
nforce 15.24
geforce 178.24
And hybrid sli doesn't work, hybrid sli stay always in "save mode".

But when I install vista in english and the same internationnal drivers hybrid sli work. Strange :confused2:
As I speak french, I prefer use my OS in french.

In vista french I discover when I go to device manger of windows and set in hybrid SLI mode "add aditionnal display" then I right clic in the device manager and clic on "scan for hardware change" the screen became black and come back and finaly I set hybrid SLI in "boost performance".

I think this motherboard suck a lot, i ask msi :
-----------------------
Me:
I find something crazy.

I install on a Windows Vista english base installation the international driver :
nforce 18.11
geforce 177.79
And the Hybrid Sli work finely.

Then I reinstall Vista with my french OEM DVD and install the same driver
But the Hybrid Sli doesn't work.

I reinstall Vista with the english DVD, and install the same driver.
And the Hybrid Sli work finely. I've try it three times and have the same result.

So I borrow from a friend, a french SP1 Windows Vista DVD, and reinstall the same driver. But the Hybrid Sli still not working.

So the problem come from the native language base of the Windows Vista operating system.
English, hybrid sli work.
French or maybe other language, hybrid sli doesn't work.

I'm sure now, you'll find a solution.
Thank a lot, I really want to use this function : hybrid sli.
