k9n2 sli platinum NO POST issues
« on: 23-July-09, 17:36:33 »

Hi Kiddies,

I have a reoccurring problem... I thought it was fixed after the initial build.

I initially build this machine after two failed biostar motherboards...I decided on MSI

So here is what i am running.

the K9N2 SLI platinum with NO SLI activity - bios version original disc
an AMD Phenom X4 processor 2.3 ghz
2) 1 gig sticks of matched pc 6400 800 mhz
Ati FireGl 7200 pci express video card - latests driver
450 Watt Black Widow power supply
300 gb western digital 300 gig hard drive

When it runs I have windows xp home  32 bit

The problem is that it will not post up.

Originally on first build it would not post up but removing a set of incompatible memory sticks fixed that issue up real quick.

Things went fine for about a week then last night it froze solid and on reboot would no longer post.  It throws out an LED code of

LED 4 red
LED 6 red
LED 7 dark
LED 8 dark
LED 9 Green
LED 10 red
LED 11 dark

other LEDs on the board
LED by the PCI express slot 1 blue, 1 dark

LED 15 Green
LED 16 Orange

I have cleared the CMOS...both with the button and battery removed.
I have changed the memory completely to 2) brand new 512 sticks I had laying around for another computer.
I have removed the board from the case and run it out side to no resolution.
I have removed one stick of original 1 gig memory and no go.
I have  changed video cards to an ati radeon saphire pci card...no go

I am afraid at this point it is my processor or video card... the memory has worked well since 2007.

I don't want to RMA a perfectly good board if it is some thing else.  Does anyone know what the codes mean?  I cannot find a legend for the LED's anywhere.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Icey

Did you connect the JPWR2 for 12V CPU power?
Is the memory suited in the dual-channel slots?

So what happened with the Biostar motherboards, as boards don't die that easily.
And what are the specs of your PSU?

the first board was pretty much vga error that stuck around even after trying to use the onboard video, the second biostar worked a few days then froze during a bios update and wouldn't clear or reset or anything... so I sent it's rear packing back to newegg... vowing to avoid cheap motherboards forever.  So MSI was suggested.

I have 24 pin atx, the 4 pin  jpwr2, the 4 pin pci express vid, and a 4 pin in jpwr3 as well as the cpu fan power.

the power supply s a 450w black widow tr2 rx series gaming psu set to 115v

dc output

Min current

Try with another and better PSU
You've tried to boot with barabone setup and mainboard outside PC case too?

I would say so too, that's not much of a powersupply.
Did you try the Biostar boards also with that PSU?
Would explain a lot.
