Boot error, need help with beep codes
« on: 23-August-09, 11:30:29 »

Hello.

I have a slight anoying problem.
I built a new computer to my wife where i went budget style and used mainboard G31TM-P21
Everything seems to work fine, its not my first system i built either so i know what use to be the problems and dificult.
I noticed from beginning that it didnt boot up proper, when i first installed i thought maybe because i needed to set bios and so on.
But the thing is, it allways hyave problem to boot up.
If i start from switched off. I press the button, after 1-2 seconds i hear a long beep followed by a bunch of short beeps.
and it wont POST, switch of power and press the power again and it boots up as normal.
This happens every time, i allways need to power up twice.
Ive looked everywhere for beep codes to figure what it means, but cant find it, its not listed in the manual either.

Anyone that know where to find a list for beepcodes? And is anyone recognising the problem?
it runs with 1 module of 2gb ram (tested in other system) (tested with other modules allso)
Intel E5200 Dual Core at 800mhz
Gigabyte ATI HD4350 graphic

All input is wellcome.

Best regards
Peter

What PSU are you using?  (brand, model name and amperage limits (A) on the main voltage rails (see PSU Sticker))

What happens if you remove the video card and use the onboard video instead?

Can you try a different PSU?

What about this:

I cant use another PSU without alot of hassle, it will be my last resort :-)

Take out the video card i have not tried yet, will do as soon as wiffy gives me access to the computer  :-)

Same here, ill have to wait for access to the computer to count the beeps properly.
BUT thanks, the link to the beeps was what i was looking for. Back in the days they where always stated in the manual.
Sometimes even inside the lid of the computer case. and some even used diodes giving digits that applied to an error in an error-list in the manual.

I think i might have gathered enough pointers now to find a solution, if not then i will be back, and if, ill be back to let you know and thank you guys again.

Best regards
