Post Code d1 means do what....?
« on: 26-September-09, 17:13:35 »

Looks like the system is failing before video, or my video card is bad.

The HD and video card are from prior system that died and can't tell if they're the problem from the code.  Thoughts from gurus?

D1 is a BIOS Bootblock Checkpoint (long before the video card is even initialized):

http://www.ami.com/support/doc/AMIBIOS8_Checkpoint_and_Beep_Code_List_PUB.pdf

D0 --> Early Boot Strap Processor (BSP) initialization like microcode update,
frequency and other CPU critical initialization.  Early chipset initialization is
done.

D1 --> Early super I/O initialization is done including RTC and keyboard controller.
Serial port is enabled at this point if needed for debugging.  NMI is disabled.
Perform keyboard controller BAT test. Save power-on CPUID value in scratch
CMOS. Go to flat mode with 4GB limit and GA20 enabled.

D2 --> Verify the boot block checksum.  System will hang here if checksum is bad.

D3 --> Disable CACHE before memory detection.  Execute full memory sizing
module.  If memory sizing module not executed, start memory refresh and
do memory sizing in Boot block code.  Do additional chipset initialization.
Re-enable CACHE.  Verify that flat mode is enabled.

Wow, BIOS chips got small.  I found it, having a heck of a time reading it.  Old man eyes.  I removed the GPU and it goes to 2E - fails at intialization of output devices.  Smells like a bad video card.

A7577
AMS140

I'm confident about the first line but the second line is very hard to read and I don't have a magnifying glass handy.
Second line could be AW instead of AM then either 5 or S

Can you test a different video card?

As long as you are sure about "140", we know your BIOS Version --> v1.4

It was the video card.  I have a cheapo in there now.  If BFG can turn around my vid card in under 30 days, I can return this one to Best Buy. :-)
