MSI i-Charger - Doesn't seem to work at all?
« on: 31-May-10, 10:39:37 »

Hi All

I've had very little problems with my 975X Platinum Power-Up Edition motherboard, and my system is running very well, I have Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate running on my system, and I have just bought an Apple iPad.

The iPad shows that it is Not Charging when directly connected to the motherboard with the Dock Connector cable. This is because the iPad requires 1 Amp to charge as opposed to the 500mA that the USB Ports provide. Fortunately MSI have created the i-Charger software:
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=newsdesc&news_no=1013

This allows the 1 Amp to be delivered to the port.

I installed the software and now I have an icon in the system tray of a battery with what looks like a red light inside it, when the software starts, nothing appears except a box which immediately closes. When the iPad is connected nothing happens and "Not Charging" still appears on the iPad display.

I thought it could be a problem with Windows 7 and/or 64 bit, so I changed my hard disk to one with an Windows XP SP-3 install on it which I use now and again for testing and for software that doesn't work under Windows 7 and/or 64 bit.

Having run it under windows XP it still does the same and doesn't work.

The install files are completely different, ie two separate downloads

Any Help appreciated

Thanks for your reply.

I was hoping that someone in the Forum has managed to get it to work.

I'm guessing that I won't get much assistance from the support dept regarding it.

The new iCharger beta version v1.0.101 fixed the compatibility issue with Apple iTunes, which caused the i-Pad can not be charged.

Please test it, thank you.

this app allows 1.2A to be diverted to the USB port powering the iPad.  Are there any side effects of this?  What if the user has other USB devices connected?  Any chance of overstressing components on the motherboard?

Is it better to use a powered USB hub?  I suppose there are some hubs on the market capable of providing over 1A per port.  Thanks Apple for not following USB standards!

Topic moved, as its not a Windows 64bit problem.

Although its software, I guess its still an 'Other MSI Product'. Also, I'll sticky it for a while. ;-))

i-Charger doesn't work on my K9A2 Platinum either. I'm running Windows XP SP3.

Can't find the new iCharger beta version v1.0.101 to try it. Where can I download it?
Sorry, saw the link in the post after I registered.

Edit: iCharger beta version v1.0.101 doesn't work for me either.

Hello.
iPad will not be recognized by iCharger when the battery is under 2%.
When the battery is being slowly charged till about 2~3%, the iCharger will start kick in (iCharger logo will then appear on screen).
Thanks.

In my case the battery charge of the iPad was well above the 2%. But, no charging by iCharger unfortunately.

Thanks for the new version, works for me!

I had to allow some processes to start with my Comodo firewall after connecting the iPad. This was not the case with the previous versions of iCharger.

Hi All
I have just revisted this thread, after my inital postings.

I can confirm that I have now installed the v1.0.102 version and it appears to be working fine.

After I installed it all was good.

Excellent MSI!

Does any-one experience memory problems with i-Charger and Windows 7?
Just found out it uses 150 MB memory 2 hours after the computer started. I did not connect the iPad in those 2 hours.

Hi All

Back again, this time I have installed MSI "Supercharger" and this is now not working  ;-((

Ipad has IOS 5.0

Using iTunes 10.6.3.25

Supercharger 1.2.11

iPad reports "Charging" then "Not Charging" using a MSI X58-GD65 Motherboard Win 7 64-Bit Ultimate with all service packs.

Seems to be working now - uninstall and reinstall? odd - better though as no UAC prompt and it autostarts

Any Ideas?

Thanks
