870A-G54 Realtek LAN crash when using Torrents
« on: 08-February-11, 20:09:00 »

The network card on my MSI 870A-G54 crashes when downloading or uploading using torrents. It takes around 20-30min until I lose network connection and I have to reset the network card to make it work again.

I have tried all the official MSI driver, Windows Update driver and a driver downloaded directly from realtek but the problem remains. I'm using Windows 7 x64 and I have the latest BIOS version (updated today).

I think I have been seeing this also.  At least the network "hangs" for a few minutes at a time.  It can manifest as a hang in Internet Explorer or even in Windows Explorer.

To make it even worse, I have been trying to get a second RTL8168 (a PCI-E x1 card) working at the same time.  No good.  Maybe two non-Realtek NIC's would work.

My system specs:

# AMD Athlon II X3 425 @ Phenom II X4 B25 3375MHz
# MSI 870A-G54 (rev 3.1, bios version 17.8)
# A-DATA DDR3 1600MHz 9-9-9-24, Gaming Series (2 modules in dual-channel)
# XFX Radeon HD6850 1GB
# Samsung F4EG 5400rpm
# Windows 7 x64
# FSP 400-60APN

I might have found the problem and solved it on my own though. After I disabled "Green Ethernet" under the network card settings I haven't lost connection for several hours.

Remove all overclocks and set everything to auto.
It will probably solve it.

Usually with Realtek onboard you may need to disable some of the off loading features to get ti work properly ,like flow control for example.Realtek chips have the habit to lose packets also.
So either you use the Realtek with offloading features off either get an Intel based network card.
Anyway it is recommended to use a discrete network card if you re directly connected to the ISP network to avoid your motherboard onboard geting killed.
Make sure you use latest Realtek drivers also.
The problem can be also related to the NDIS drivers of the software firewalls or antivirus suites you are using or even the router that protects your network.
Specify the OS and security.

He's overclocking like crazy.
So lets see what happens when they are removed before jumping into drivers and settings.

Clocks or no clocks didn't do any difference. All my clocks are tested thoroughly and are solid, otherwise I wouldn't overclock.

But for some reason I can no longer reproduce the error, didn't manage to make the connection crash anymore.

Sorry ,i did not saw the CPU tweak info.
Indeed that may be the issue.
CPU unlocking problem most probable.
The problem shows you that your unlock is not succesfull.
It may work one week or 2 but belive me ,for long term usage is a no go i ve saw it on my own.

It is not the clocks, I have ran this CPU for a year at these clocks unlocked. It's a solid clock.

I cannot reproduce the error with or without clocks at the moment, don't know why.

Maybe ,maybe you simply got flooded or something. Are you using a decent firewall to protect you ?!At least such firewall protects your hardware even if the connectivity still goes down.
P2P is a "dangerous" thingy in many aspects.Make sure you use up to date clients.
The CPU can go bad even if it worked one year too. That silicon had one core disabled due to an objective factor.
