BIOS update for ms-7173 Ver. 1a (rc410m) motherboard
« on: 09-February-11, 04:13:56 »

I am looking for a bios update in order to install windows vista business on my pc. The motherboard model is an MS-7173 Ver. 1a (RC410M). The entire BIOS string is 63-0100-000001-00101111-060206-RS400-1ADCF001. The other number shown at startup is RC410M A7173AMS V1.2. Is there an update to prevent the system from freezing after a Vista install?

  A7173AMS V1.2

That is the BIOS. It's not likely that BIOS has anything to do with your problem.

One thing I forgot to do was give you more specific info on my system, so here it is:

Intel Pentium 4 processor 631, 3 GHz (dual core)
A7173AMS  RC410M   BIOS Ver. 080012
Super Talent T5UB1G8C4 DDR2-533 1GB/64x8 CL4 S-RIGID Memory
ATI Radeon Express 200 Series—ATI RC 410 Chipset (onboard video)
WDC WD2500JB-55REA0 (250 GB)
Lite-On LDW-401S DVD+RW
Sony CRX230EE CD-RW
PCI SoftV92 Modem
Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC (onboard)
KDS Visula Sensations VS-77/VS-70/VS-7p monitor (AKA: Northgate model KM-718 or Sampa SM-718)
Power Man Model # IP-P350AJ2-0 350 W switching power supply

I was under the impression that this system could handle a Vista install. When I tried it, the system would freeze, but only after the install was completed: after signing in and getting to the desktop I would attempt to perform an action (any action, like click on an icon) and the system would lock up for about 5 minutes, then run OK, then freeze, then run OK, etc. Runs fine in "Safe Mode" after install, but goes through progressive freezes everytime I perform an action in normal operation. Is there a fix for this? BIOS upgrade? New graphics card? I'm at a loss, but I heard there might be a BIOS fix for this problem. MSI is the manufacturer of the board, which means that I have to come here for support. Any suggestions? And is there any other information that you need to know about the system? Just ask and I'll be happy to supply it to you.

What OS did you use previously, and did you have any problems with it then?

I'm terribly sorry, Can't believe I gave you all that info and forgot to tell what OS I'm using! :bonk: The system is running XP Pro with two 1GB Super Talent memory modules. At the moment the BIOS shows a UMA frame buffer size of 128 (can be maxxed to 256) and runs fine with no problems, but I was considering adding an ATi Radeon 9550 AGP 256MB Graphic Card DDR2 8X and moving away from the onboard graphics. Along with the beta version of the bios that was posted, do you suppose it would be enough to properly run vista business?

Yes, it should. But i see no idea to move to the Vista...
For best performance use XP, also for such old machine like your it will run very slow..

I wanted to thank both you, Svet, and Stu for helping me with this problem, for the advice and especially for the link to the BIOS update, which BTW installed without any problems at all. I used my USB flash drive to perform the upgrade and followed the directions to the letter. You guys truly are the greatest. :worship:  Thanks once again! Perhaps I'll reconsider installing Vista Business until I get a newer system (or at least a better mobo).

Hi
I have a similar problem, I have a motherboard RC410M MS-7173,
I tried to install windows 7 but I got an error message:
"Stop: 0x0000005c (0x0000010b, 0x00000003, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)"
I need to update the BIOS version that was before is 1.1,
I used your software Live Update 5 is said to be updated to version 1.2,
When I did the update I used the option of WINDOWS and not through the DOS,
Now I have a computer problem always jammed and it's my understanding the problem is in version 1.2 and how I installed it ...

I need to a download link in the previous version: 1.1
But I prefer a version you can run Windows 7, so I understand this beta version I think 1.37

Thanks
