880G-E45 Motherboard - JCOM1 Adapter ?
« on: 30-May-11, 03:10:16 »

I just purchased and installed a new  MSI 880G-E45 motherboard. The board has a 10 pin header (# 10 missing). The manual calls it: Serial Port connector: JCOM1. I have not been able to find a part to bring this Serial Port out to the rear of the pc. Some older pc's used a semular arrangement but the pin connections between the DB9 and the motherboard connector do not match. The pin numbers should be the same on both ends. I could make one if I could find the motherboard connector with about 12 inches or more cable attached. I use serail ports with my Ham Radio Equipment.
Thanks Fred

This is a standard serial bracket, can be gotten everywhere.

Best ask them before you buy for the one you need.

Today I was able to find a connector with a cable attached that would fit JCOM1. I then checked the connections with an ohm meter and wired them accordingly to a DB9 Male connector. I checked all connections with the ohm meter and all are correct. I am wired for a standard RS232 Serial port. It don't work. Tomorrow I plan to make up a cable I can do some testing on the port by turning the RTS and DTR on and off and I will be able to tell if those leads are correct or not. I don't think MSI has the drawing in the book labeled correctly. If it is there is another problem with this port. Does anyone has one of these ports working????

Maybe your software doesn't support the OS you use?
E.g.  32bit drivers when using an 64bit OS?
Have you tried sending command from good old DOS-boot-disk?
I presume you have something like a PK-232 connected to it?

Have you enabled the COM chip in the bios (or I am mistaken and it is only for the // port ?) ?
