GT780R BisonCam NB Pro issue.....
« on: 22-June-11, 12:47:14 »

As a proud new owner of the GT780R, I am having difficulty with the BisonCam NB Pro. This is advertised by MSI, as an HD 720P webcam, capable of 30 FPS..... but how do we see these benefits. The only webcam software provided with the notebook, is 'Easyface', and 'Simple Camera', which is on the driver disc. When I use either of these (or other apps), the image is low-res, and I only get 10 - 15 FPS. I have looked at MSI's GT780R Downloads, it seems no driver is available, and it says the webcam uses native WIN 7 drivers.

So my questions are....... Is the webcam indeed capable of HD 720P performance, and how do we do this? Is there a driver needed, or available, and if so, where can we download this? To see optimal performance, is third-party software needed that supports HD webcams..... and if so, what software supports this, or is recommended?

Please understand, mine is not an isolated complaint. I am also inquiring on behalf of other owners and members of the NoteBookReview.com forum, and our 'MSI GT780R Owner's Lounge' thread can be seen HERE!

All information you can provide regarding the BisonCam NP Pro would be very helpful, and greatly appreciated. Since this issue is sure to be a widespread concern amongst owners, is it possible a 'sticky' can be created that provides answers and solutions? I will also post any helpful replies to the lead post of the GT780R Owner's thread.

Thanks in advance!

 :)

You can try looking in your webcam software, there should be settings you can change for image size etc.

Alternatively, try some other webcam software, like YawCam, which is free:

So Stu, you are saying that third-party software is indeed required to see the HD performance, correct? And, what of drivers? None are available, none are required, and the BisonCam NB Pro uses only native WIN 7 drivers, right? Is there a link or webpage available, wherein we can see the specifications of this webcam?

Thanks again!

Possibly, but as I have no access to a notebook with one of these cameras installed, and I don't have the Easycam software at hand to check its settings, I cannot confirm for you. But certainly I have used YawCam myself with my MSI Starcam webcam, and that software allows to to configure device settings to change capture resolution and framerate, amongst other things.

Correct, BisonCam NB webcams are natively supported in Windows 7, so there are no additional drivers to install.

Looks like not, as I tried Googling and couldn't find one.

Thanks Stu!

It would seem that the webcam does require HD optimized software, but when I tried the latest version of Skype, framerates were slow, and clearly it was not an HD image. I will try the software you suggest. It's good to at least confirm that it uses the native WIN 7 drivers only. This came into question with some users, and doing a web search of the webcam, produces many sites claiming drivers for the BisonCam NB Pro. I can look up the HW ID, but would you happen to know the specific model and version of this particular NB Pro? Finding 'specifics' on this webcam is indeed a futile effort!

Thanks so much for your help!

Quite correct, my Google search lead me to plenty of sites claiming to offer drivers for this webcam, but if there is no direct source from the manufacturer, I would question the authenticity of any of these.

As already stated, I don't have one of these to check myself, so cannot assist you with this. I don't work for MSI, and neither do any of the other forum staff here, but you could always ask MSI Support and see if they can advise you:
