Bluetooth issues on Windows 7?
« on: 06-August-12, 21:13:45 »

Hi,
I recently made a clean windows 7 64 bit installation on my MSI gt60 0nc.
It connects to the various peripherals but seems not able to work with them.

Before the clean installation the bluetooth worked flawlessly. I've installed the various drivers but when I turn on the integrated bluetooth 4.0 (I've got the Bigfoot Killer Wireless 1202 with Bluetooth Network card) it's not able to receive files from my phone, stream audio to the bluetooth headset or properly "work" with bluetooth peripherals in general, even if he shows them as correctly installed.
It seems to have problems with the "Bluetooth Server", of Intel. Actually I even tried uninstalling some of those drivers but usually I can't because some components are missing and the Wizard is closed automatically. Help me detecting the problem please!

Did you install all of the chipset drivers, Intel ME driver  et al?
It sounds like you just forgot one of the drivers.

Hi xmad thanks for the answer (again).
I tried installing the Intel Management Engine drivers (I think those are the ME drivers right?) from the site but nothing changed apparently. I tried also installing the Intel N2230 Bluetooth 4.0 driver but it only gave me the possibility to repair it or remove it, and when I clicked repair it there was an error that said "The software removal that you're attempting cannot proceed. To remove this software please be sure that the Intel(R) Wireless adapter is correctly installed and activated.
The bluetooth server error is still there apparently.

Did you try to remove it? I don't even own a laptop, but I believe there is a switch somewhere on one to turn on/off the bluetooth / wireless devices. Make sure those are turned on.

You may need to enter safe mode in order to remove the driver if it keeps acting wonky. I actually sometimes re-start the windows install when anything wonky pops up to save frustration.

Yes I tried and it gave me "an error with this package, the error code is 2318". And sadly yes the bluetooth is switched on because the devices are recognized (even correctly installed) but then they just don't properly work completelt,or partially (for instance the phone can receive a file but not send it now). I could try the safe mode thing, but do you know what I should uninstall precisely?

I would start with N2230 Bluetooth 4.0 driver. Have you tried removing it from the device manager as well?

Like I said before though, if you are still right at the beginning of an os re-install, you may want to just pop the disk/ usb in and start over.

I just noticed one thing, it seems to be an Intel driver that handles the bluetooth 3.0 in my computer, it's actually the one that I try uninstalling and gives me the former errors. I don't seem to be able to delete them though since even in Safe mode it simply tells me that the Windows wizard cannot start in Safe mode. In devices manager this bluetooth 3.0 doesn't appear. I tried unistalling the other one (Atheros bluetooth 4.0) but nothing changed. Making them not load at the start of windows gives me even more problems apparently. I don't understand what to do and honestly since every other thing is working now (and that was not easy lol) I'm reluctant at formatting the pc again..

While in safe mode, go into the device manager and right click on the device and uninstall the drivers for the intel N2230 Bluetooth 4.0 driver

I could successfully delete those 2230 drivers (apparently) but the Intel PROSet/Wireless Software for Bluetooth Technology remained there, I can't see it in the device manager and when I try uninstalling it it gives me that error "The software removal that you're attempting cannot proceed. To remove this software please be sure that the Intel(R) Wireless adapter is correctly installed and activated.".
Since it gives me this error I believe he could be the "damaged" one but searching it online gave me only results of people that couldn't uninstalling it because they had the wireless turned off (and mine it's on since I'm typing this). Also I believe that when I installed the drivers both wifi and bluetooth were turned off. To correctly install a driver the device need to be already plugged? As a last option I could format again but if possible I would like to solve this without arriving to that.. I made some pictures of the various devices in device manager and the programs installed.

Are you able to do a system restore using the cd/dvd that came with the laptop?

There wasn't one with the desktop but I burned a "System Repair disk" with the Backup and Restore feature of Windows when I first got the laptop. It seems something with boot files in it, probably useful if the system doesn't load. It's this what you are referring to? And in case what should I do with it? Also if I ever need to format again do you know if bluetooth needs to be turned on while I install the drivers? Thanks for the answers xmad

Honestly I am not a laptop guy, see if you can run the restore disk from windows / try to boot from it. You may have to do a restore using the windows utility I am not exactly sure. (I don't even own a laptop)
