I have attached the HP USB Format Tool & win98boot files for use when necessary to create a bootable usb stick.

The Win98boot files are the required DOS system files. To create the stick simply follow the steps shown below:

Not that it may possibly matter, but are the Win98 boot files linked the basic 98 or 98SE files? Not sure if one has any benefit over the other. Thanks for posting the thread.

Doesn't matter this is just basic 98, and it is just the boot files.

MSI provide Unetbootin to make bootable USB disks, and include a FreeDOS floppy disk image:
http://www.msi.com/service/download/nbdriver-17247.html

I used this to make a bootable USB stick to flash the EPF firmware on my Windpad 110W, very simple and easy to use.

Hi Xmad I tryed using the msi flash tool to update my z77 mpower bois to no avail,
so I tryed formatting my thumb drive using hp usb disk storage format tool and
and created a bootable windows98, after that I then used msi usb flash tool again to
process the latest bios archieve file that I downloaded directly, after that I tryed booting
my usb again and followed the instructions and it successfully updated my bios,
I just wanted to know if my method is safe?

The forum tool will only work on z87 boards with mode 2 and point the tool at just the extracted bios file.

The other option is M-flash w/ ME although M-flash is the best flash program in the world.

I don't see a mode 2 option when I run the tool. I have a z87-g45 that's not working and so need to flash its BIOS and am using an MSI notebook to try to get the stick to flash, but see no mode 2 option :(. What am I doing wrong?

The latest bios posted here: >>BIOSes<<

Can be flashed via Mode 1, I didn't however update the older ones.

When you run the tool in windows, you will select the first option and point it at the compressed archive.

It just files needed for booting with USB FD via HP USB Format Tool, you can put it in anywhere in windows. But first you need to create bootable USB FD and targeting to Win98 folder.
I think this tool will also works in Z87 because it's universal basic tool, I guess so.

And had no problem also with 2.1.8 long time ago.

I think the old versions had issues with some antivirus programs.

Perhaps you are right, better disable anti virus while doing this  :-))

I kept getting an error booting from the boot disk saying "Load Error: No DPMI Memory".
So what I did instead was download Rufus 2.3 and create a FreeDOS disk instead.
Just flashed my GPU and everything worked fine, just in case anyone has a similar issue.
