MSI 7950 Twin Frozr 3 fan problem
« on: 23-February-13, 21:05:39 »

Hi everybody,

I just received this card today and i was initially impressed, that was until the fans kicked in.

It turns out that the fans will immediately jump to 100% anywhere between 55c - 60c, even when set to manual control. I've setup a profile in Afterburner and it hasn't helped. If i set the fan speed to 50% either in CCC or Afterburner, the fans will still override this and jump to 100% at 55c - 60c. I dunno what could be causing this issue. I've tried several different drivers, using 13.2 at the minute. I have a pretty fresh install of windows, but i've yet to test this in Linux (doing it as i speak).

Would it be possible that my psu is causing this? I have a Corsair HX850.

Thanks!

Edit: Oops, just realized others are having this problem here http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=166687.0.

Oh and here's my bios and serial...

Serial - 602-V276-18SB1211085929

Current BIOS - http://www.mediafire.com/?vnrjp91780w8ifb

I know there's a thread on this already, but i've tried everything i can except flashing a bios. And i'm pretty sure the retailer will nag at me to do this anyway before they'll RMA  :)

Thanks!

Edit: I just tried stress testing in Linux and had the same issue, so i reckon that rules out any software/driver issues.

here is latest version
lash it by booting from USB key, then execute:
atiflash -f -p 0 xxxx.BIN [ENTER]

where xxxx.BIN will be your vbios file

Thanks, though i assume the bios needs the file extension changed from 1A1 to Bin?

Yeah just did it anyway...

Same problem, fan speed just runs away at 58 degrees.

Is it worth waiting for a bios fix or just RMA?

Just tried the MSI drivers, and still having the same issue.

Since it happens in Linux too, it would lead me to think it's not a driver issue anyway, but either bios or hardware.

Would it be worth trying a 7970 bios on it?
