Have recently installed gtx680 lightening and afterburner software.  Windows 8 begins to load normally, but just prior to the login screen the monitor looses the signal and goes blank.  Have tried everything from reinstalling windows, rolling back to older Nvidia drivers and nothing worked except booting into safe mode, or uninstalling afterburner.

System is:

Core i7 3770K
Asus P8z77 PRO
16 GB (2x8) Patriot Gamer Series RAM
MSI GTX 680 Lightening
Corsair 850TX V2 Power Supply
OCZ Vertex 4 SSD, 128 GB

As a side note, I am also using VIRTU MVP.  When the display is plugged into the motherboard (i-mode), everything works fine, including Afterburner (at stock settings, haven't tried OCing).  The problems arise when trying to plug the monitor directly to the graphics card (d-mode).

I would prefer have the display connected directly to the graphics card as this is the best config for gaming.  Does anyone have suggestions?  Am at a total loss ...

Remove Virtu and retry.

Did a little more playing.  As suggested, uninstalled both Virtu and Afterburner then reinstalled Afterburner first and then Virtu.  I know virtu is a little fussy over the order its installed with the video drivers, so though it might be the same with Afterburner.  This fixed the problem 50%.

Now, if I "restart" the PC then the screen will go blank right before win8 logon, but if I do a full "shutdown" through windows, or by pressing the power button, then everything starts and works fine - both Afterburner and Virtu.

From the documentation I read on win8, restart is supposed to be a "full" shutdown and restart, opposed to "shutdown", which is a hybrid restart.  Tried disabling hybrid restart for the full shutdown, but it made no difference.

What I noticed is than when doing a restart, all LEDs on the VID card stay on whereas if the PC is "shutdown" either through windows, or power button, then all lights go off.

Not sure if this is a Win8, driver, or specific card problem.  Any ideas?  For me this is not a big deal, just shutdown, but am away a lot and know its going to screw up the wife!

Suggested was to uninstall Virtu and not reinstalling it. Try without (quite useless) Virtu.

Ah, sorry, did try uninstalling virtu and had the same result.  Just for good measure, I have done so again as well as disabled multi-monitor in MOBO bios, have tried restarting vs shutdown many times and still the same results.  Shutdown works, but restart doesn't.

In Afterburner settings "general" uncheck "start with Windows" and retry.
