MSI Z87 G45
« on: 23-July-13, 07:27:17 »

hi, just recently i've bought this board, my USB keyboard not working on the POST there, but in the windows its okay. i tot it would be the bios usb legacy enable/disable. i use the other keyboard and went to enable the usb legacy, but still the previous usb keyboard still not working by the POST time. i just dont want to switch to other keyboard when i wanted to go to the bios.
Any idea what's happening? :bonk:

Read this: >> Posting Guide <<

Please provide more info regarding all your components in your rig. See my signature below for an example of what to list. Include the brand and model of the keyboard that you're having the trouble with and BIOS version on your MB. There has been problems with various keyboards and MBs that needed a beta BIOS from MSI to cure it. The more we know about your rig the better chance there is to help you fix it.

Hi,

Have you tryed all USB Ports on MB back I/O -plate?
...if yes, then i would try to update the BIOS if possible.

Edit: Allso i would do them one step at time and not just go straigth to newest and also member to clear CMOS, everytime you update the BIOS!

Do you have fast boot installed? That keeps usb from working until windows starts to speed up the boot process.

It works under win7 but like the win8 built in feature it only really shaves off a few seconds. These new boards post so quickly that you are to the ssd and the desktop in seconds after powering on anyways.

I only installed it for the one click bios function so I can easily get into the bios for any changes.

The fast boot software on the motherboards installation disk. If that is installed and enabled you won't be able to use any usb devices till after windows boots to the desktop.

that software has not been installed yet.

I was thinking the Fast Boot options in BIOS under, Settings/ Advanced/ Windows 8 Configuration/...
But seams like "MSI FastBoot" should allso disable PS2 device.
And if you use normal Fastboot you should have needed to disable USB device your self atleast on my MSI Z87-GD65 Gameing MB BIOS in default they arent.
So check how those are set on your MB, to be sure.

Heres an picture of my BIOS. If i enable Fastboot i still need to diasble my device one by one.

Edit: hmm wait, if MSI Z87-G45 had that "MSI Fast Boot" -option then how you get in BIOS ?
1: Clearing CMOS yeah, but i would think then on that Board it dont disable ps2. Because otherwise you would need to save your settings in profile to get fast past setting all little things up..

Fast Boot setting looks enabled to me, along with PS, SATA, and that other setting (Full Initial). Disable those things.

Clear CMOS with the PSU power cord pulled, the battery pulled, then reset.

If it's a Razor keyboard, it may not be fully compatible and will require the BIOS engineers to see if they can come up with a fix for it. If that is the situation, recommend to contact MSI Technical and open a ticket with them;

@ Froggy Gremlin; Sorry that was picture of my board BIOS, to get picture what to look for.
Shouldent those Keyboard commands be standard. I mean KB makers cant expect every MB maker to make change on theyr BIOS for them.
And so i would look FW update form KB maker, if thats what houlding it back...

@ Vernon; Clearing CMOS should make them enabled. As in firsth boot of MB you should get in BIOS no mutter what device you use.

Dos any USB device get power same time when you cant get in BIOS with your KB :confused2:

From what I am reading, yes, the keyboard is not compatible. Keyboard commands have nothing really to do with it if it won't intitialize properly during POST. If I understand it right, he had borrowed another USB keyboard and it was working.

And i was thinking that the other Keyboard was PS2 version, but if that is not the case, then sadly i dont see how MSI would fix it and so i would go to ask fix from KB maker as there is no settings that could fix that issue, that i know.

Right. I may have missed that in all the thread text if it was a PS/2. MSI engineers have been able to resolve keyboard compatibility in the past, they may be able to again.
