GE70 0NC wont boot, unable to perform recovery
« on: 24-July-13, 13:41:37 »

My laptop has Windows 8 x64, it has been running fine. I usually just close the lid instead of restarting it, however I had to restart yesterday as I updated my firewall, however when it restarted it will no longer boot.

When it tries to come on it does an automatic disk recovery but it fails and is unable to fix problems. I tried advanced options but it says I need to log in as an admin (I am an admin) but my account isnt displayed so I cant do it.

This means I have no way to get on my laptop, and I cant find my recovery discs. I tried inserting a Windows 7 x64 disc but for some reason it wont boot from it?

What can I do to sort this out?

you can try to load last good known working configuration
or to perform restore to OS to factory default

about windows7 installation you need to turn off secure boot and to set boot mode to legacy

Thanks a lot, ive managed to boot the windows 7 disc, however I currently cant install it as for every partition it says 'Windows cannot be installed to this partiction', and more info says 'The selected disk is of the GPT partition style'.

Basically Ive read that I can sort this by using Gparted ISO to erase all partitions and creating a 'NTFS partition table'. My question is is it safe to do this? I dont want to mess the laptop up. My partitions are as follows:

Partition 1: WinRE tools
Partition 2: SYSTEM
Partition 3: unknown (it just says is MRS Reserved)
Partition 4: OS Install
Partition 5: BIOS_RVY

if you mess or wipe the partitions, OS factory recovery will no longer works.

but if you want to install Windows7 OS, don't think that you have choose

they way to preserve it, would be if you reformat OS Install only to proper partition format for windows7

Nah, ive formatted the OS install partition and it still wont work. It seems the only way would be to format the entire disk... this sucks, but as long as the laptop will still be fully function if I do this I dont mind? As I mentioned I have lost the recovery discs so its doubtful i'll be able to perform a recovery anyway.

The only thing worrying me is that there is a BIOS partition, why? Deleting this partition wont mess up the BIOS will it?

OK I made a mistake and accidentally erased all the stuff on the drive. So now I have no choice but to push forward with this.

Im trying to create a partition table, my choices are:

msdos
aix
amiga
bsd
dvh
gpt
mac
pc98
sun
loop

Which should I use? I tried pc98 but when I try to create a ntfs partition is wont work.

not sure from those choices,

but why you just dont use windows's install wizard to create and format the OS partition

Yeah, but its ok I got it working. The buttons above my keyboard needed drivers to function, once I installed them the wifi button started working  :agrees:
