What is MSI Fast Boot?
« on: 11-October-13, 17:10:12 »

I've recently installed Windows 8 and I noticed that there are some Windows 8 features in my BIOS which I can enable, my board is a Z77A-GD65.

Can someone please explain what Fast Boot does along with the other Win 8 features? Also, I read in one thread that Fast Boot requires some specific protocol from the Graphics card, I have a GTX680....

Thanks for the help.

MSI Fastboot is all of the fast boot options enabled & interacts with the MSI fastboot utility.

Thanks for the reply but that doesn't really answer my question. Can you please explain what it does exactly and if I should enable it or not?  Thanks

I think he did.  Turn off MSI Fast Boot.  See all of those fast boot settings now?  It turns them all on.

The fast boot utility is here:
http://us.msi.com/product/mb/Z77A-GD65.html#/?div=Utility&os=Win8%2064

I don't use the utility, but I believe it lets you get into the BIOS on the next reboot.  Maybe someone elaborate all of the utility's features.  Fast boot skips USB & PS/2 initialization and makes it impossible to get into the BIOS without a utility.  You can also get into the BIOS using Windows 8's advanced boot options.

MSI Fast Boot, is a utility that lets you enter BIOS while fast boot is enabled, think of it as a 'switch', software wise.

Fast Boot, is just that, no way to enter BIOS, unless you press the 'Goto BIOS' button on the board, assuming you have this turned on, and that Windows 8 features are enabled, and running said OS, or, as above, having to go into Windows 8 Advanced Boot Options.

Basically, a shortcut, but an unnecessary one ;)

Yup Fast Boot will skip BIOS post and straight to the windows :) Ofcourse you will not able to get inside BIOS menu...unless you set that program to "Go to BIOS" in windows before restarting PC.

the "MSI fast boot" option in the bios has nothing to do with the fast boot option with win 8 in uefi mode.
"MSI fast boot" is only a initialization skip of the enumerated hardware options for the lagacy bios, it also works with win 7!
