I'm curious to know, is it possible to reduce the CPU fan speed of a GS60 2QE below the 44% (~2700rpm) that is mentioned in other threads?
This is the only thing that is annoying with the GS60 in idle mode. Would be great when the fan speed could be reduced to 2000rpm or below.

Currently I get the same error as tropicalflower or Wazabi so I can't test it.

@pito4all:
These two points are only the release news/changes for the new version.

Application crashes on startup. I opened an instance of Visual Studio Debugger. The exact error is:

"An unhandled exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in PresentationCore.dll

Additional information: Cannot call Arrange on a UIElement with infinite size or NaN. Parent of type 'System.Windows.Controls.Grid' invokes the UIElement. Arrange called on element of type 'System.Windows.Shapes.Rectangle'."

Seems some value used directly by the interface (?!) isn't being read correctly. If i'm correct this would qualify as bad programming style :-)

My System is an MSI GS60 2PE. All required software as listed is installed.

WIN8: Please install .Net Framework 4.0 or later version.
3. Admisnitstrator right on SilentOption installation.

I'm Happy now !

Changed in program to advanced, changed lowest value's to 0% and now during idle, web-browsing - Fans are switched off !
CPU fan - is always switched off, GPU fan from time-to time is switching on.
Temps are around 38-50''; with ambient temp 20-22'' !!!

Little question/thought -
1. is it safe, when fan from ~2000 rpm - immediately switching to 0 rpm (with-out some slowing down period) !?
2. is it possible to write real temperatures - in advanced mode instead of, or together with temp graph (blue to red stripe)
3. is it possible to make some bigger threshold(?) - for example ->now at 50" GPU fan is switching on and cooling aprox. till 47"; but to make so it would cool for at least 45" plus after reaching 45" - to keep it working for at least ~10-20 sec more !!!!!!  (because now it keeps switching on and off too very often, if in advanced mode, lowest values are set to 0%)

Have GT72 2QD-651NE

Silent option installs easy in win8 but when it starts Windows close it and say some problem prevent it to start.
Also it bugs dragon gaming center so it will crash when trying to open user interface.  :gg:

After uninstall of silent option and complete shutdown and boot dragon gaming center Works Again.

Any idea what gives?

Inlcude with temp on temp bar, i think "Silent Option" need advanced fan power option, when choose advanced fan power option we will have 12 options fan power instead 6 options.

Hi, just tried on Windows 10 and it works (but I had to change my region to UK).

But I have a newbie question : why change the fan speed? I mean, if you slow it, the temperature will increase and you will damage your computer. If you speed it, it will not change anything, but you will have more noise.

I am really curious about that, please, explain me what's the purpose of this utility :D

Thanks.

i can´t find the edit button, sry
i tried uninstalling net framework 4.5 and installing 4.0 but it still doesnt work.

i´m having the problem that my cpu fan keeps ramping up and down constantly for a few weeks now. it goes completely off 1 second and ramping up to mid load for 3 seconds, constantly. i tried reinstalling intel cpu drivers and msi bios but nothing works.
anyone got an idea how to fix this?

Works like a charm on my gs70 2qe !
Note that I already had a custom fw for the fan speed and it's working as if it was the original fw !
Only got one question : Anyone tested 110% or more fan speed ?

Two things could improve this tool imo : Temperature on the bars (already asked earlier in this thread) and of course all region unlocked ! It's really a no go for me in daily use if it's not available for other than us or uk :/
But i guess that's due to the beta status !

Still, good work and thanks for this awesome and essential tool !

Fantastic application, working great on my GS60! I was previously using a custom EC but I had to flash the EC each time I changed the temp curve. It's great to be able to do it on the fly now!

One request though (as many have already requested): please add the real temperature values to the graph in advanced mode so we know precisely what are the different tresholds. It makes it much easier to be able to set your custom temp curve when monitoring with Dragon Gaming Center for example which gives the temperatures and the fan speed.

If you don't want to add the real temp values in the app for whatever reason, could you please give them to us in this thread? What are FANCPUT1-T6 corresponding to? I would also like to know the default hysteresis value for the CPU fan!

Thanks :)

I'm trying to run this on a GT70 2OD, Windows 8.1 (Dutch).
The model is in the list of supported models.
Should I try to update my firmware?

Thanks in advance.

You guys are brilliant!

I just returned an Asus ROG g501 to the store, because it was brimming with problems and asus techs were dead silent.
My only concern with buying the MSI Ghost pro was the fan noise, but bought it anyway.
And now I find this thread, and the app works! My nb is silent under low pressure!

I think I just became a fanboy!  :worship:

Thanks for this great app. Works flawlessly on my GE60 20E.

I would like to know that what happens if I reduce fan speed so much? will it works on just low Cpu performance or same Cpu but high temperature?

One more thing how to I get the Gaming Center program? It doesn't exist on my notebook's download page.

In my test, Silent Option still has its protection mechanism, it doesn't allow you stop FAN completely, FAN would still work when the temperature reach the point.
And for Gaming center, I can find it in WIN8.1 utility, http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GE60-2OE.html#down-utility&Win8.1 64,
if you want newer version, you can try to find it in newer laptop download page, such as GT80, GT72.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your test and information.  We are studying the problem root cause.

If your model is GT72, GE60 2Qx/2Px or GS60 2Qx, and encounter any problem, you can try this "SilentOptionCleaner"
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1oSMeecH6wcRWwyMlI3eXpFVE0/view?usp=sharing

Double click SilentOptionCleaner.exe to execute, and it will reset EC FAN table.  Restart OS and execute Silent Option again.

Your feedback can help MSI improve this FAN utility.
Thank you.

First off thanks ALOT for this software, its just what i needed for my GS60!
Is it safe to use the "SilentOptionCleaner" for GS60 2PE?

Hi all,

Couldn't put this thing working.
I had followed all steps. Have Win 8.1 64 with framework 4.5, last SCM installed and installed with admin rights.
It installs with any error, but there's nothing on system tray and if I run the desktop shortcut it does nothing.
Any ideas ?

Oh, it is not the touch pad. GX70 has one touch panel for turbo cooling booster along with Keyboard backlit on/off .

You can check this website, scroll down to 'Exclusive Cooler Boost Technology'. http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GX70-3BEGX70.html#hero-overview

Check out the keyboard layout. at the top of the keyboard is the touch panel. That is the touch panel I'm talking about.

i cannot use this on my MSI GT70 2QD Dominator. im using Windows 10. i just installed it. the error i get is "Firmware communication failed!"
"Contact the application vender"

MSI afterburner works tho

Maybe the software cannot detect EC and cause this error message, I suggest you to reset EC by removing power cable and battery for 15 seconds.

And waht is your BIOS and EC version?

Hi, have you install SCM or Dragon gaming center?  Those utilities are necessary items.

Need some help guys. So, I tested this program on GE60 2QE Apache Pro, Windows 10.
So messing around setting and the Fan speed really changed. So I can see this work with windows 10 (Maybe not fully)
1st things i notice is if i go anywhere beyond -16%. My fan speed will drop to 0rpm and then boost to 3300rpm continuously until i reset the speed profile.
The reason I want to use this program because during gaming, the fan speed reached until 5400-5500 rpm which is the speed when cooler boost button is pressed. But then what's the point of the button? I don't want to game with such loud fan. I expected without the button pressed the speed should be 4800 - 5000 rpm. Problem is with or without button pressed, during gaming it gonna ramp up to 5500rpm anyway.
So i started using this program and use the advanced option to reduce fan speed at high temp. But my issue it even thou i changed from 85% to 70%, whenever i game, the fan will ignore this program setting and ramp up to 5500rpm.
Anyone have any idea? My only most troubled issue for this laptop at the moment.
Thanks.

In my observation, in order to prevent the overheat problem, actually MSI didn't open the lowest and highest FAN control right to users.  When system temperature reaches top level, FAN would still run in full speed, and that's exactly what you saw in gaming mode.

My power plan and in gaming center is balanced actually. Not gaming mode. But somehow, no difference in performace and fan still go full speed. Is sad that they dont allow the decrease in maximum fan speed thou. Too damn loud.
