I have the GS60 Ghost 4k Gold, with a haswell CPU and Windows 10.

I'm getting the error Firmware Communication Failed.  Contact the application vendor.

What will it take for me to get this to work, I cannot stand the CPU fan running 100% of the time.

Just routine checking if they released the updated app yet, again. :hypocrite:

I believe that the issue isnt purely a win10 thing as people using win10 (with 4th/5th gen cpu)  have no problem.  But people tend to report non-functionality with the combination of the later 6th gen cpus (6700+) while running on win10. Whether that is the issue or its something else I do not know.

I am sure I am not the only one checking back on this specific thread for updates on the supposed release of the updated (working) app.  A few have emailed msi support on the issue and their collective response was that an updated app is to be released Q2-2016. But there was a more recent post narrowing the time between Mar/Apr.

Yep.. broken record here: waiting since Nov with my specs below (Skylake) for it to work.

Must take months and month to figure out how Skylake Processors work.. :undecided:

Would be also nice to have that bad issue with the SuperPort + true USB3.1 devices plugged in also.. running latest Win10 Pro .164 version and still.. tada.. even after TB3 port firmware update.. many months of waiting for a fix.

Dragon center AP is going to ship out with MSI Vortex and the default OS for this machine would be Windows 10 as I checked MSI website, they offer Windows 10 driver download. So this AP should work with Windows 10.

Thanks for the info. I am currently testing the Dragon Center App from this Vortex Support Download (Utility Section).  I am on the GS60 6QE Skylake/x64 W10 combo.  I can confirm fan settings do in fact work with both cpu/gpu.  *sidenote* The fn f7 ('Shift' Shortcut) doesnt work. That is the only issue I have come across so far. Maybe someone has resolved this or knows how to but I have no problem manually selecting shift mode within the Dragon Center App. Then again this was made for a different platform with small similarities (skylake/win10).

You dont get numerical values for temp just a blue/red bar on the temp vs rpm fan curve.  The app controls the fan fine but there was something that was mentioned in some previous post I had read. On this platform (gs60 6qe) I have found a dead spot between 1% fan and ~48% I observed no real difference in the fan rpms within that bracket. Beyond 48% the fan is adjusted accordingly as well at 0% the fan is turned off.  *sidenote* The adjustment is not instantaneous, ie if you want to test and set fan to whatever increment it gradually ramps up or down within a few seconds maybe I am just not used to this.

I apparently have never experienced the system kicking on at such a high fan speeds I tried 80-90%.. WOW thats loud. Now when both gpu/cpu go up high it sounds like a wind tunnel.

Last thoughts: 1)Hopefully there will be a dragon center or dragon gaming center that is updated to include fan controls for the GS60 6QE platform because we don't need to see other options for the led configurations and other little things that differ on the vortex. Ill keep on checking this forum and driver/utility downloads in hopes for this.. 2)I would also like the 'shift' hotkey to work but in terms of fan control I am happy for now.

I just bought the MSI GS60 Skylake i7 with GTX 965M Win10 and the CPU fan is very loud. I'm getting 90-95 dba right out of the box. The fan noise has been constant right out of the box.

I did research before buying and dba is not supposed to pass 30 when on idle:

This was delivered just today and I've only had it for 2 hours and it's driving me crazy! This is my first MSI - is this normal or do I need to exchange it?

I asked the support before. I have the MSI GS60 6QE with 970M in it, they said that because of the laptop is so thin, the fan has to be running at speed of 2900rpm minimum in order to keep it cool and not burning any thing inside the laptop. So yes, its normal and that's why we are all here waiting for silent option to be updated to support skylake CPUs.

This works perfectly! I have the same laptop except mine is 4k and it completely stops the fan! Now i dont have to suffer the loudness of the cpu anymore

Work well indeed ... Do you keep the first two sliders to 0 ? I noticed that the fan kicks in when it gets closer to 60 C.

Mine (GS60 6QE 2k) idles around 55 C when surfing the internet ... is it safe to have the CPU at that temperature ?

Very helpful forum 8-)) thks guys

Good to hear its working for others!  As far as cpu temps, I have read you can go up to 50-55 but for extended and long duration use the max should not exceed 60C where premature wear would eventually occur.  I could be wrong and others also might have different ideas on this.

I did some more testing.  So I generally always have the cpu fan on its lowest settings (anywhere between 1%-48%) because I like the cpu to be as cool as possible load or not. For the past two days I have tried a new CPU fan curve. 0 50 65 70 80 80   While messing with the settings and watching temps the temp thresholds for the first 2 settings seem to be ~37C and 47C.  If the temp drops 2-3C the fan drops to the next lowest setting. *note* I am doing these tests in green mode. Right now normal browsing/simple usage (for 3+ hours now) with the  0 50 65... setting I am staying between 43 and 47C. I will admit I like the silent operation... But I might switch back to always running at ~50% fan just as a personal preference.

Seriously? Dragon Gaming Center is defacto on all mid/high end MSI laptops since the start. Thats not remotely whats at issue here for months upon months: its the fact the Silent Option s/w still to this day does not work on Skylake+Win10 even though those have been out for almost 8 months now. I am still waiting to have better control over both my laptop fans to more efficiently control their RPMs when certain temps are reached as right now its no where as dynamic as I want them to be.

It is DRAGON CENTER, not DRAGON GAMING CENTER. It is a upgraded version in some ways.

I just downloaded it and id have to say its pretty awesome. way better then the orig app or whatever. Don't understand why they don't release this one for other models, you can control CPU & GPU fans. Only thing that don't work right (haven't tested) is the shift mode within the newer Dragon center, as its made for the Vortex system, can still use stock Dragon center to control it tho. Neat

Wow that's EXACTLY what I was looking for especially the ability to dynamically increase both CPU and GPU fans so they provide about the same fan speeds even if CPU is at 100% utilization so that the entire laptop is given full air flow and not just the CPU (although its still not full linked the way I like it as you can have apps that only use the CPU and not the GPU so the GPU fan won't kick to max since its not used). Well.. its something.. not fully there but getting better. Everything else: nice! Why this isn't mentioned strongly anywhere else is really shocking! This is a must for any MSI laptop user.

Edit: So now how about we have a LINK option for the fans so when either CPU or GPU Utilization goes up, both fans go up also regardless if used or not. Why? To promote FULL laptop venting to encourage better airflow. I'd love to just have the option! This would mean far faster overall dynamic cooling.

Re: "Silent Option" Fan Control Application for MSI Laptops

I also noticed that on top of the 'shift' fn key not working that settings tend to reset after restart.  I came up on a random post stating MSI said CC is used for temporary changes.  If you want settings to hold you need to go through Bios... But at least we have some functionality?! haha.  Still hoping for a simpler updated silent option.

P.S.  +1 to Edwin's idea of linked fans..

I'd like to say I am hopeful for such changes but I am not especially since Silent Option still does not work on Skylake+Win10 and both have been out since mid-last year and now we're.. April?! :undecided:

Hi there !
It seems like, for the skylake laptop now, the only option is using the Dragon center from Vortex Support Download (Utility Section).

Yep.. broken record here: waiting since Nov with my specs below (Skylake) for it to work.

There should be a whole thread on the Thunderbolt 3 (TB3) Tech.
You mentioned that you updated the firmware in the BIOS for the Thunderbolt 3 controller. There is a help PDF file that has instructions saying that the Thunderbolt 3 update tool needs a 'Thunderbolt 3' device attached before it can be applied.
https://www.msi.com/files/pdf/Thunderbolt_update_en.pdf

It seems TB3 is like this Silent Option app. Its a long time in the making, the same as most new upcoming TB3 Docks are still in USB-IF certification processes, you can pre-order, but they won't be ready for sale until mid 2016. So from May 2015 there is still very little TB3 devices etc, simply because its a major change to industry standards.
Some light reading..

Search products that have the thunderbolt 3 certification.

When I install this Dragon Center, he is in a very weird language not in English. It is in some language that must be Italian or French. Does anyone know how to install English Dragon Center?

I can't run this program because it doesn't support my laptop (GS60 6QE). You guys are beginning to get a bad rep, as I'm beginning to see the complaints coming in from all over. Releasing expensive notebooks who's hardware cannot communicate with software correctly.

Hmmm...There is one question with that. Do you see any download link on your model download page? So far I only see Dragon Gaming Center and I do not know if they would release it for your model since it only offered for Vortex.

Looks like it needs firmware update to make the app work.
