GT60-20j Windows 10 - synaptics driver
« on: 02-August-15, 06:32:19 »

I have a GT60-20j (stock, with exception of two samsung 840 SSD's)

Made the upgrade to win 10 64 mostly all works well.  The only driver I am having an issue with is the synaptics touch pad.  Seems to turn on and off sporadically. Tried the windows stock version ( 19.0.6.1 ) and the MSI posted ( 18.1.30.4 ), same results.

I know the MSI guys are working hard on win 10 upgrades, but this would be nice to have out front of everything else.

Mind to share how you do the upgrade?
What's your original OS?
Which setting did you choose to keep? (keep every setting and apps, keep personal files only or keep nothing?)

Is there any error messages showing up when the touchpad stops working? or it just don't move anymore in a sudden?
Do you need to force restart to get the touchpad function back?

I also have this problem with my GT60-2OC 003US.

Touchpad works erratically, if at all.  I went 8.1->10 with everything migrated in place (apps and data).  Everything else seems to work fine.

If I turn the touchpad on or off with the function keys I get the touchpad symbol flickering on and off repeatedly, seems to stop if i hit the tab key, but then the touchpad seems to stay permanently off, even if SCM reports it on.

Wondering if this is as much an SCM isssue as a touchpad issue?

How do you upgrade to Windows 10? Keep all files or keep nothing? And what is the version of touchpad driver in Control panel > Programs and Features list?

I suggest you to remove current touchpad driver and then re-install the Windows 8.1 touchpad driver on the MSI download page. See the troubleshooting guide on FAQ:

I also have a GT60 and the same problem occurred after I upgrade from win 8.1 to win10.

I have tried uninstall the driver all together and that will solve the problem but whenever windows updates itself (automatically), it will reinstall the problematic driver. I can only hope the developer comes out with a patch soon. This issue is really annoying.

You should read this FAQ to prevent the problematic driver or update from reinstalling automatically the next time Windows Updates are installed.

I have searched online for a solution for this issue but found nothing. Was this ever resolved by MSI? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!
