MAC Address showing as 88 88 88 88 87 88
« on: 25-January-16, 03:27:22 »

Hi Everyone

I have a problem where my Mac address is showing as: 88 88 88 88 87 88 and my GUID is: FFFFFFF FF FFFFF FFFFFFF FFFF (all F's basically).

How can I reset the motherboard?

I have tried resetting the CMOS/flashing the BIOS etc but nothing has changed those 2 numbers..

My model of Motherboard is X79A-GD45

I guess you tried to flash your board with fpt and did not use -savemac option. Anyway MAC is deleted. Restore it with the guide below that has been created by MSI Support USA. It is down somehow so i pasted the google cache. Use the attached EEUPDATE.exe.

If your MAC address is not showing up correctly, please follow the steps below:

1.   You will need to create a DOS bootable USB flash drive. Download and save both of the following to your desktop. Also, extract Win98SE_bootdisk.zip to your desktop.
Download usb_format.exe here.
Download Win98SE_bootdisk here.

2. Run usb_format.exe. Select your flash drive, FAT32, Quick Format, and Create a DOS Bootable Disk. Browse the path where you extracted the Win98SE_bootdisk files. Click Start.

3. Your DOS bootable drive is now created. Copy Eeupdate.exe to your flash drive. Download Eeupdate.exe here.

4. Locate the 12-character MAC address for your motherboard. This can be found on a sticker on top of the LAN port. Write this down.

5. Set your flash drive as the first boot device or press F11 during bootup to manually boot from it.

6. At the command prompt, type: "eeupdate /nic=1 /mac=xxxxxxxxxxxx"
Note: xxxxxxxxxxxx = the MAC address you wrote down earlier.

7. You should see the following screen. The MAC address has been successfully updated.

8. To verify that the MAC address has been updated, type: "eeupdate /nic=1 /mac_dump"

Amazing.

Thank you so much.

Will this also resolve the issue with the GUID being all FFFFF's?
