P67A-C43 (B3) Upgrade to Ivy Bridge
« on: 26-April-16, 11:17:57 »

I'm upgrading my CPU from a i5-2500 (Sandy Bridge) to an i7-3770 (Ivy Bridge). Now I know that the P67 chipset can handle the new i7-3770 depending on if the BIOS is updated. The BIOS version I have is 1.J . MSI's page says the i7-3770 is supported with v5.1. I'm a bit confused with the BIOS version designations so I'm wondering If I need to upgrade the BIOS to v5.4 (the newest) in order for the Ivy Bridge i7-3770 to be supported. Can you give me some advice on this?

Thanks.

Yes, you need to update bios. Only 5.x bios versions do support Ivy Bridge. Better directly update to version 5.4. Note that you need to do it before trying the 3770 as the board won't post with the current bios when using an 1.x bios version.

Thank you for the info. I'll do that today. Just curious, why is there a version update for 1.X between 5.3 and 5.4?

Follow the below:

1.)
A.) Download the attached archive (!) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the >>MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
F.) Boot to the USB and follow the directions. MEMTEST is included with the forum flash tool and it is recommended to run this prior to any flash.

2.)
Once the flash is complete, you must download and install the latest ME drivers:
