3GB 1060 on 1440p?
« on: 24-November-16, 07:08:08 »

Hi Awesome peeps !!

I need your help on this one.

I am wondering if anyone has tested the performance of a gtx 1060 3gb on a 1440p monitor? I am planning to get a new monitor (still rocking the 1400x900 res) and was wondering how my card (3gb gtx 1060 armor oc) would perform on a 1400p monitor.

should i just stick with 1080p? do i need to get a 6gb 1060 version or a 1070 instead to play on 1440p?

What is not clear to me as well is there would be any significant difference between video quality of a 1080p and a 1400p monitor.

Sorry if this has been asked before or has been reviewed. I'm just finding it hard to decide between the 2, the more I watch or read reviews.

Please help me out on this.

Personally, I would stick to 1080P with the 1060.
It's performance on current games at 1440P is somewhat acceptable. You'll get anywhere from a minimum of 30 FPS to upwards of 70 FPS depending on the game/game engine etc.....

But that doesn't leave much headroom for down the road.
See : http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1771?vs=1777
This compares a GTX1060 founders edition to an Asus GTX 1060 OC. Both perform fairly well at 1440P, but as I said, over the next year it will get worse and worse with newer games.
So, as I said, I would just stick to 1080P.

if I do upgrade to 1070 though, is it like complete and utter overkill for 1080p?

No, it isn't. With ultra details you will still get higher fps and an option for very high quality anti-aliasing or DSR

I have no clue why some say 1070 is overkill for 1080p. If you have the means definitely get the 1070. It also depends on the games you play. All in all id say stick to the 1080p with 1060.

A 1070 on a 1440 should be ok but it depends on what games. Some games will run better than others. Having a fast cpu helps too.

Personally, I would stick to a 1080p 144hz monitor, I think that this is is the point where the 1060 3gb is targeting for.
