B350 Tomahawk 1.32 beta bios response.
« on: 24-March-17, 06:43:50 »

I can confirm that with the new 1.32beta bios the POST delay is all but gone (2-3sec now) and the new A-XMP setting worked with my 16gb Corsair LPX 3200c16 wonderfully
working on 3200mhz .

(1.21beta @2993) https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/2153036
(1.32beta @3200) https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/2171731
Good job msi.

tried out 1.32 on b350 tomahawk, ryzen 1800x using   G.SKILL TridentZ Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Desktop Memory Model F4-3000C14D-32GTZ

which should be able to run at
DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000)
Timing 14-14-14-34
Cas Latency 14
Voltage 1.35V

auto xmp failed.  saw the new auto memory feature which is neat since im no OC expert.
2933 14* failed
2933 16* failed
2933 18 20 20 38 preset actually posted and in windows

Hello,
Another thumbs up for the 1.32 bios - coming from 1.15 and now POST time is 3 times faster ( less than 20 sec to log into windows 10). XMP also worked for 2x8GB Corsair 2400Mhz kit. However, I got one bad side effect - IDLE temps raised with 6-7C. Now during post and logging into Windows temps increased to 39-41C and after 4-6 minutes they went down to stable 33-35C. I would have worried about thermal past etc. if it weren't for stable 29-30C with 1.15 on HVMonitor. Also Bios doesn't show readings for one of the case fans and CPU temps raised very fast to 37C when they were stable 30C with 1.15 before.
In all 1.32 is huge leap for me if it wasn't for the idle temps.

the temp increase is  probably cause A-xmp might have switched your voltages around it did bump the Ram  and the NB voltage on mine a lil bit... you gotta watch out that xmp might be overvolting for stability.

also remember ryzen infinity fabric uses  memory speeds  so it might be pulling more watts

It seems like Crossfire is not working anymore.

I can't get it to boot at all with 2 graphics cards attached.

This BIOS update bricked my motherboard. 1.15 was working fine. I wanted better memory speeds, got black screen instead.

Hi agouraki,
I checked RAM timings (14-16-16-31 ) and voltage (1.2), i.e A-XMP did not change settings. So, temps increase should be coming from the Bios update

This bios broke memory compatibility on my system.
With previous bios versions, including betas, I was always able to get my memory to 2933mhz.
With this 1.32 I could only post at 2133mhz. No matter what settings I tried.

I'm using 16GB of Gkill F4-3000c15-8GVGB. Single Rank.

That didn't help. I get no text on screen, nothing about a corrupt BIOS, nothing, it's blank. Monitor gets no signal.
I tried putting the BIOS file (and 6 copies) on a 8 gb usb drive, smallest one I have, only device connected except sound and monitor, nothing.

Woah tough luck on the bricked mobo, you have my sympathy. Here's some feedback:

Running a R7 1700 with A-DATA XPG Z1 3000MHz memory, model name: AX4U300038G16-DRZ (it's on the compatible memory list)

BIOS version 1.15: can run the memory at 2933mhz and 3200mhz.
BIOS version 1.32: can only run the memory at 2133mhz. (which is weird, because it's on the compatible list)

I rolled back to 1.15.

Having heard of mobos getting bricked, I think I'll stay on the current bios for some time.

Is it possible to flash to 1.32 and then go all the way back to 1.00 if needed?

I went from 1.00->1.10 and am having bugcheck reboots on the system now.  I'm thinking about trying a beta if I can't get this figured out but only if it is possible to re-flash all the way back 1.32->1.00.

I have my RAM on 2400mhz now which worked fine with 1.00.  I'm not sure the memory or it's settings is really causing the instability though.  I suspect it is something else about 1.10 BIOS that is causing the bugchecks.

1.32 is terrible for me. 1.31 was better.

GSkill 3200mhz ram = Doesn't work at 2400mhz, 2133mhz only. Worked previously at 2667mhz on 1.31, 2400mhz on other versions

Crucial value 2133mhz ram = works at stock 2133mhz and nothing more. Worked fine at 2400mhz on 1.31 with tight timings.

1.32 at stock speeds with R7 1700 and Crucial RAM and I have had a couple of BSOD's.

Overclocking also seems impossible on 1.32 as it fails to post most of the time. I am flashing back to 1.31 now.

Hmmm flashing back to 1.31 from 1.32 doesn't seem to work. Did 1.32 update something else too?

After flashing back to 1.31 it will post at 2133mhz stock settings, but will not boot windows, it hard locks. It will not post at 2400mhz with either kit of RAM I have now, even though I had saved an OC profile from 1.31 which previously worked fine.

So currently on 1.32 waiting for the next bios... unless anyone can tell me how to get back to 1.31 successfully!

Each motherboard is different from the other. Therefore different BIOS is for each board.

Thank's for the information.

One of the reasons to buy this board, was because were you had beta bios to solve consumers problems, were competitions had none. I knew the memory compatibility issues from this new architecture ( I bought a 4Gb Value ram only to put system to work ) and still waiting to know what is the best memory kit to buy for plus 3200. I'm happy with this board, and more happy I will be with BIOS improvements (BCLK 103+, memory compatibility, sub-timings, overclock stability, etc).

A side note: Gaming Mode with 1.450v is overkill for +400MHz.

Be Well

Bios 1.31 is the last good bios I am using with amazing memory speed and stable oc on cpu and ram. With 1.32, no memory setting above 2400 will post, not with a-xmp, not manually, not memory try it either... does not work above 2400mhz... have a look at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/08gkkfumhdlwcwp/AABko16COfu3LrcFTGZiJcAKa?dl=0 and you will see that I at least got 2933mhz with really good timings from my G.Skill F4-3200C16D-16GTZB TridentZ Series 16GB (2x 8GB) 3200MHz DDR4 CL16 1.35V Desktop Memory. Memory tested, benchmarked and stability tested for hours on end and cold boots post every time. 1.32 and also 1.33... just awful with my memory kit. The post time on 2400 is exceptional, but the performance of everything is just unacceptable.

I don't have an issue with BETA BIOS 1.32 and RAM speeds.  Running Corsair LPX Vengeance 16 GB at 3200Mhz all day, every day.  Running a 1700 at 4.1Ghz as well.  I'm not switching to a stable BIOS until it's revision surpasses mine.  1.3 is out but I will wait for the next one.

I just want to update my situation. I did send my mobo back to the shop but they got it working. They said they just tested with 1 stick of RAM and got it working no problem. I had 2 sticks and never thought of removing one.

So come today and BIOS 1.3.
Same thing happens, I flash BIOS, blank screen, LED on Mobo says something is wrong with CPU. I remove 1 stick, still the same. I remove both sticks. Now mobo LED complains about CPU + RAM. I put 1 stick back in, no LEDs turn on, no complaints...but computer is still not booting.
So I start removing other parts. First up, PCI Soundcard, some old Creative X-fi card. Turn the power back on, instant boot. I had 1 stick of RAM at the time. I try with 2 sticks, no problem. I insert the soundcard back in mobo, no boot.

So something is up with PCI slot. I don't know if it's a too aggressive timing or what because that setting no longer exists in BIOS v.1.3.
I have 2 soundcards, the other one is PCI-E (Asus) so it's OK, I can get sound. That Creative X-fi card works just fine with 1.0 -1.20 BIOS. Any Bios version after that, blank screen, it seems.

The best I can say is to contact MSI about the issue. See : >>How to contact MSI.<<

You're not the first person to have issues with Sound Blaster X-Fi cards and the new Ryzen boards. There was someone just the other day with a similar issue.

The biggest issue I had with the X-Fi card was the sound would cut out periodically, I have run the X-Fi on BETA 1.15, 1.3 & 1.32 .  However, I think my issue was more a case of buggy Mass Effect Andromeda than anything else.  However, a cheap card available on the market is the PCI ASUS Xonar DG, I had no issues with this card.  Just installed a Creative Zx and it caused an odd restart after the OS came up but after that it's been solid.  FYI

I have an Asus Xonar DSX, have no issues at all with it. So I'm fine.
I had 2 sound cards installed because it is more practical since I have speakers, 2 different headphones, external music sound card and it just becomes a mess switching cables etc.

I just wanted to put out the information. If someone has same problems as I did.

Can you alter the buffer quantity or buffer length? My Audigy Platinum eX has had cracking/cut problems but it was easily resolved widening the buffers and upping its quantities... but I'm using the kX Project drivers instead of the 'official' ones. BTW, I've been having a lot less of audio problems with the Tomahawk/Ryzen combo that I was having in my previous platform, 970A-G46/FX8350. I even choose the Tomahawk for its Legacy PCI slots :D

Never heard of the Kx Project Drivers, but I will definitely look them up.  A little late for me since I'm already running the latest Sound Blaster card now, but I will try hooking my buddy up with the X-Fi and see if there are drivers for that.  Thanks for the info!

@mamasan78
@justinkerber
are you using Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic card or Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium card?
How did you allocate sound cards and graphic cards?
Graphic card on PCIe2, sound card on PCIe 1 or 4?

I placed the Sound card just above the Primary Graphics card in the PCIe 1x slot.  Picked up the Sound Blaster Zx card and placed it in the same slot, sound still periodically cuts out in ME:Andromeda...  Which I will attribute to a buggy game, not the motherboard.
