What core are you using
« on: 25-March-17, 05:33:04 »

What core are you using and how many cores there is?

Example of cores
Intel Pentium
Intel Core i3
Intel Core m3
Intel Core i7

Example Of core counts
1C1T (1 core 1 Thread)
4C2T
4C4T
8C8T
8C16T

Im using an I7 6700HQ @ 2.7ghz No of Cores: 8,4 logical processors

Nothing to be scared of, ive used an Intel Core 2 at 1.06 Ghz For like 7 years until i changed to an GE62VR 6RF and yes my old comp was extremely slow it takes like 6 mins to boot up and open google chrome... this comp im using only takes like less then 1 min to boot up (12 seconds) and open google chrome

Formatting... ARGH!

Those are examples of processors (as in packages), not cores. A core is like a cylinder for an engine. A Ford Mustang isn't a cylinder.

The i7 6700HQ has 4 physical cores (processors) and 8 logical cores (threads). Or 4C8T. You have the terminologically confused. Just sayin'.

A CPU's power has little to do with boot times. That has to do with BIOS POST and initialization, storage medium throughput and general optimization.

I have a Intel Core i7-6700K which  is 4C8T.

Heh.....depends which PC I'm using.....

This laptop (HP Elitebook 8570W) uses an i7 3630QM 4C8T. (This is my daily driver laptop for stuff)
My old MSI GT70 uses an i7 3610QM 4C8T. I don't use this one much anymore, too big and heavy.
My desktop uses an i7 4770K 4C8T. Mainly used for gaming and such
My server uses an old Phenom II 835 and is only 4C4T.
And my 3D Printer PC uses a Core i5 750, so is only 2C4T.
Lately I've been testing both a Ryzen 5 1500X (4C8T) and a i5 7400 (4C4T)

Yes, I know. Too many PC's. But they're all older and serve their uses.

My current Rig is running an Intel i7-4770K @ 3.5 GHz (4 Cores 8 Threads).
Most of the time I don't really need 4 cores (I do mostly web browsing). But when I'm running certain games or applications it's like the difference between night and day when compared to my old PC (I think it had a Single Core). I wonder if an 8 core CPU at the same clock speed would give me a noticeable performance bump or not. My wallet's telling me no :lol_anim:

usually 4 cores, 8 threads.

sometimes 4 cores 4 threads, when I fire up my 10 year old C2E tower.

and a variety of non intel/pc retro machines that I don't know how to explain in this context, ie Motorola 68000, Arm v3 etc.

an i5-7600k OC @ 4500mhz when gaming.
If I look at the temperature readings per core my 4th core does most of hte work and my 1st core the least.
But the temp differences are only 3 - 4 degrees (62/63 to 66/67) after playing the witcher 3 and project cars 2.
